We are seeking a Senior Cloud Migration Architect to embed with our development team and lead the AWS platform configuration and CI/CD automation for a large-scale enterprise cloud migration program. This program covers 30+ applications across various migration approaches. This is a hands-on, technical role for an individual who can write production-grade IaC, debug across the stack, and mentor application developers on cloud-native patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and tune AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Amazon EKS, and EC2/Cloud VM environments for applications across Dev, Test, and Prod.
- Partner with the DBA team on Amazon RDS setup for SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Design VPC networking, security groups, IAM roles/policies, KMS keys, and Secrets Manager integration following least-privilege principles.
- Build infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation acceptable) so every environment is reproducible.
- Design and build Azure DevOps build and release pipelines tailored to each migration pattern.
- Implement GitOps using ArgoCD or Flux for EKS workloads for pull-based deployments and automated drift detection.
- Establish a promotion strategy across Dev, Test, and Prod with appropriate gates and rollback mechanisms.
- Configure CloudWatch logs, metrics, alarms, and dashboards for each workload.
- Produce architecture decision records, runbooks, and operational procedures for long-term support.
- Work daily with application development teams, the AWS Infrastructure Team, the DBA Team, and Tech Leads.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5-6+ years of hands-on experience building and operating production workloads on AWS. 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes, with production EKS preferred. Production experience with ArgoCD or Flux is non-negotiable.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Elastic Beanstalk, EKS, EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager. Proficiency with Helm, kubectl, ingress (ALB/NGINX), and HPA. Strong experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines (YAML) or an equivalent major CI/CD tool. Solid Docker skills, including multi-stage builds and image hardening. Proficient with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation/CDK), Linux administration (RHEL/Amazon Linux/Ubuntu), and Git.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or DevOps Engineer - Professional.
- CKA / CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Administrator/Developer).
- Experience migrating .NET and Java applications from on-premises to AWS.
- Experience operating COTS products in containerized or cloud environments.
- Familiarity with DataDog, New Relic, or Splunk in addition to native AWS observability.
- Experience with blue/green and canary deployment patterns.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position requiring the resource to be onsite in Lansing, MI two days a week from day one. Candidates must be available for an in-person interview. Non-local candidates must be willing to relocate at their own expense without delay.
