Role Overview
This position seeks a Senior Communications Security (ComSec) Specialist to support enterprise key management and advanced cryptographic modernization initiatives for a highly visible DoD customer. The role is suited for a proactive, strategic thinker with experience in secure communications and cryptographic technologies. The ideal candidate will operate in a fast-paced environment, provide thought leadership, and translate technical concepts into policy, guidance, and senior-leader briefings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and advise on cryptographic modernization efforts across DoD programs, ensuring alignment with evolving NSA/CNSA requirements.
- Develop, review, and implement ComSec and key management policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.
* Advise senior leadership on cryptographic risk, modernization strategy, and enterprise-level ComSec initiatives.
- Review system architectures to ensure compliance with national security cryptographic standards and for cryptographic compliance.
- Analyze current ComSec processes and propose improvements to optimize security, efficiency, and mission readiness.
- Conduct key management planning, accountability reviews, and lifecycle analysis of cryptographic equipment.
- Provide technical guidance on emerging cryptographic technologies, algorithms, and device fielding schedules.
- Prepare and deliver briefings to senior leaders (O-6/C-suite equivalents).
- Mentor junior team members and serve as a senior technical resource.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of cybersecurity experience with a master's degree, OR 14+ years with a bachelor's degree, OR 18+ years with no degree.
- An active TS/SCI clearance is required.
- Extensive experience in ComSec, cryptographic equipment, and key management infrastructures.
- Strong understanding of NSA/CNSA cryptographic standards, CNSS guidance, and DoD ComSec directives.
- Experience drafting, updating, and implementing ComSec policy, SOPs, and technical guidance.
- Demonstrated proactive work style with the ability to think strategically and operate independently in a high-visibility environment.
- Experience interacting with senior military or government leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military experience in ComSec, key management, signal, crypto, or cyber operations is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting cryptographic modernization programs or enterprise key management systems (EKMS/KMI/ACCM).
- Familiarity with emerging cryptographic technologies and cryptographic modernization transition planning.
- Previous consulting or client-facing DoD work experience.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary for this position is between $140,000 and $145,000. This employer offers a comprehensive benefits package.
