World Wide Technology is looking for a BI Backend Engineer. This job is part of WWT s Strategic Resourcing services. The candidate will be supporting a WWT customer and will be employed by one of WWT s preferred partners. The partner will provide full compensation and benefit information prior to employment with the partner.

BI Backend Engineer

Location: Montreal, QC

Duration: 6 Months

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing business intelligence solutions using Microsoft PowerBI platform, Tableau platform.
  • Architect and build semantic models in PowerBI as per best practices.
  • Create interactive reports and provide strategic insights using BI tools such as Tableau and PowerBI
  • Identify and establish entitlements based on requirements and functional areas at report level, data level and semantic layer level.
  • Develop optimized semantic layers and migrate existing data reports from BOXI to PowerBI
  • Transform raw, complex reporting data from meaningful information to inform strategic business decisions
  • Establish the best practices and connectivity of BI tools with relational and cloud data store
  • Participate in design discussions, understand application source data and create powerful dashboards and interactive visual reports
  • Design, develop, test and implement warehousing datasets, reporting tools and ad hoc data modelling tools that support leadership reporting needs.
  • Implement and oversee integration with native data sources
  • Implement security requirements according to functional and technical requirements
  • Identify and implement data integrity practices.
  • Integrate data governance and data science tools as per best practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and implement effective data workflows and transformations.
  • Design and develop data ingestion pipeline using Talend/Informatica using industry best practices. Identify and optimize new/existing data workflows.
  • Writing efficient SQL and Python scripts for large dataset analysis and building end to end automation process.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field required (master s degree preferred)
  • 10 years experience in data analysis, developing and supporting Enterprise BI solutions using PowerBI.
  • Informatica ETL and/or Talend ETL experience.
  • Efficient SQL queries development and Python scripts development experience.
  • Proven ability to work in distributed systems
  • Proficiency with relational databases (such as DB2) querying and focus on data transformations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and team-oriented mindset
  • Strong data modelling concepts and semantic layer design
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Capable of collaborating effectively across a variety of IT and Business groups, across regions and different roles.
  • Familiarity with data stores tools such as Snowflake is a plus.
  • Data Warehousing background is required


Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $65 to $80 hourly. Actual pay will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs, and will be set by your employer. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that are not included in base pay.
