Preface
This mandate centers on the domain of advanced Power Electronics and High-Density Energy Conversion within the maritime defense sector. We are seeking an individual who possesses an elite academic pedigree—ideally at the Master’s or Doctoral level—and demonstrates a first-principles mastery of electromagnetics and power distribution. The technical challenges inherent in this role require the ability to bridge theoretical circuit analysis with the physical realities of high-voltage systems operating in extreme, high-pressure environments. The successful candidate will apply sophisticated engineering rigor to the development of resilient energy architectures, ensuring the seamless integration of high-power acoustic arrays and electromechanical propulsion systems where failure is not an option.
The Opportunity
This role offers a pivotal chance to pioneer advanced marine engineering solutions within a high-energy, cutting-edge research and development environment. Represented by StaffRight Associates, our client seeks a visionary engineer to spearhead the creation of high-power electrical architectures for sophisticated underwater defense and commercial systems.
You will directly influence the development of next-generation autonomous submersibles, naval acoustic arrays, and complex electromechanical payloads, transforming conceptual research into ruggedized, deployment-ready technology.
What You’ll Do
Architect and implement advanced power conversion networks, including high-voltage AC/DC and DC/DC topologies spanning 500W to 50kW.
Drive the full hardware lifecycle from initial mathematical simulation and schematic capture through complex printed circuit board (PCB) design and laboratory verification.
Champion the integration of resilient power distribution architectures, fault-tolerant topologies, and highly available failover sub-circuits tailored for extreme environments.
Synthesize custom magnetic components, motor drives, and power amplifiers to seamlessly interface with tactical acoustic transducers and embedded processing units.
Lead complex diagnostic procedures, utilizing advanced lab telemetry—such as digital oscilloscopes, function generators, and specialized current probes—to isolate and resolve systemic hardware anomalies.
Direct external board layout partners and internal assembly teams, ensuring rigorous compliance with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards and robust structural integrity.
Collaborate with cross-functional, agile project teams to brief external clients, author technical proposals, and cultivate innovative intellectual property.
Validate system performance through field deployment tests, traveling up to 25% to support onsite maritime operations and technical trials.
Guide junior engineering personnel, offering technical mentorship in hardware debugging, schematic synthesis, and manufacturing layout methodologies.
What You Bring
Academic Foundation: A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, with a explicit technical specialization in power systems infrastructure.
Professional Tenacity: A minimum of 4 years of hands-on power electronics design experience with a BSEE, or at least 1 year of targeted R&D experience paired with an MSEE/Ph.D.
Component Mastery: Comprehensive engineering familiarity with wide-bandgap semiconductors and solid-state devices, including SiC FETs, IGBTs, MOSFETs, and Schottky diodes.
Analytical Capability: Proven aptitude in conducting circuit simulation, component rating optimization, and algorithmic data analysis utilizing MATLAB or similar simulation tools.
Hardware Execution: Direct exposure to circuit board layout processes, BOM generation, component assembly, and hardware ruggedization techniques (e.g., wiring, crimping, high-reliability soldering).
Targeted Expertise (Preferred): Prior engineering experience developing electronics for marine or subsea environments, acoustic transceivers, or electric machine drives.
Embedded Literacy (Preferred): Familiarity with C/C++ or Python scripts for microcontrollers or relevant embedded computing platforms.
Geographic Flexibility: Willingness to work onsite in the Greater Boston or Southern New England region, with full corporate relocation assistance provided.
