Job Description:
Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network & Cybersecurity Engineer to lead complex enterprise-level engineering service request projects within a large, mission-critical IT environment. This role operates under the direction of the Chief Network and Cybersecurity Engineer and is responsible for driving projects from initial planning through final delivery.

The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams-including internal leadership, engineering peers, operations staff, and external partners-to define project scope, develop detailed work plans, produce technical documentation, and ensure successful implementation of network and cybersecurity solutions. This position also contributes to enterprise architecture initiatives, provides Tier 4 technical support, and delivers expert guidance on network technologies, integration, and modernization efforts.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate openly with internal and external engineering, operations, management, and vendor partners.
  • Work independently while supporting teammates and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering service requests and remove obstacles to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Perform risk analysis for engineering requests and communicate risks to stakeholders.
  • Prioritize workload in coordination with engineering leadership and partner organizations.
  • Provide technical guidance on networking requirements for enterprise software and hardware solutions, including technologies from Cisco, F5, Check Point, Microsoft, Symantec, McAfee, BMC, and others.
  • Offer Tier 4 support and technical direction to enterprise operations teams.
  • Deliver monthly status reports to engineering leadership.
  • Collaborate with senior network engineers on solution design and architecture.
  • Contribute to the development of target network architectures.
  • Support creation of technology refresh plans and capacity/demand management strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership on engineering review boards and change advisory boards.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, automation, and tool enhancement.
  • Develop and analyze requirements, design solution options, create test and implementation plans, and support transition to operations.
  • Present proposed changes to change management boards in collaboration with engineering partners.
  • Provide continuous service improvement recommendations.
  • Identify upcoming end-of-life/end-of-support technologies and develop replacement plans.
  • Conduct market research and develop bills of materials.
  • Create or update as-built documentation and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Track work in ITSM and project management tools and report status to engineering and project leadership.
  • Assist with or design new network implementations and coordinate deployment with operations and DevOps teams.
  • Document network architecture, connectivity, and design decisions (HLD/LLD).
  • Integrate network systems into the enterprise configuration management database.
  • Automate network functions such as deployment, certificate monitoring, patching, and upgrades.
  • Deliver secure, reliable, high-performance network configurations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • CISSP or CASP certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of network control protocols (QOS, PfR, PoE, NTP, DHCP), network management protocols (CDP, FTP, TFTP, SNMP), and security protocols (SSH, HTTPS, AAA, IPSec).
  • Strong understanding of IP communication and routing (OSPF, BGP).
  • Familiarity with WAN/LAN transport technologies (Ethernet, DMVPN, MPLS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise WAN environments.
  • Prior experience working within a Department of Defense or federal environment.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture tools such as MagicDraw.
  • Familiarity with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
  • Experience supporting complex, highly regulated IT environments.
