As a Senior Excel VBA Developer, you will be responsible for assessing, designing, developing, and enhancing advanced Excel-based solutions that support business and financial operations. During the initial phase of this engagement, you will focus on evaluating mature Excel systems, identifying functional gaps, and translating business requirements into detailed technical specifications. You will collaborate directly with business stakeholders to ensure scalable, high-performance Excel and VBA-driven tools that support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency. This role may extend into hands-on development based on assessment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Analyze business and functional requirements to identify technical gaps and enhancement opportunities within existing Excel-based tools.
Conduct in-depth assessments of mature Excel systems and document findings, recommendations, and technical specifications.
Translate functional requirements into clear, scalable technical designs and documentation.
Design, develop, and maintain complex Excel models, dashboards, and automation solutions using advanced formulas and VBA.
Enhance and optimize existing spreadsheets for performance, reliability, and usability.
Develop automated workflows and reporting tools to improve operational and financial processes.
Implement data validation, error handling, and quality controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
Collaborate with finance and business stakeholders to support chart of accounts structures and account mappings.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues within Excel applications, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Support testing, validation, and deployment of new or enhanced Excel solutions.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and best practices for ongoing support and knowledge transfer.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience as an Excel Developer, Excel Programmer, or similar role.
Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, and data modeling.
Strong hands-on experience with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) development and automation.
Proven ability to analyze functional requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Experience designing complex financial models and automated reporting tools.
Strong understanding of financial concepts including chart of accounts and account mappings.
Experience working with large datasets and integrating Excel with external data sources.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with finance and business stakeholders.
Preferred (Optional):
Background in Finance or Accounting.
Experience supporting financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, or reconciliation processes.
Experience integrating Excel solutions with ERP or financial systems.
Familiarity with SQL or database querying.
Experience with Power BI or other reporting/visualization tools.
CPA or financial certifications are a plus.
Experience with legacy FoxPro programming.

Additional Details
The base range for this contract position is $55 - $65 / per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
