Job DescriptionSr. Desktop Field Engineer This highly mobile, customer-facing role requires an adaptable IT professional capable of managing both physical hardware and cloud environments. The primary objective is to minimize client downtime while maintaining excellent communication and adhering strictly to travel and service schedules.
Sr. Desktop Field Engineer Position Overview: The Field Engineer will act as the primary, hands-on technical point of contact across various regional or national client sites. Requiring extensive weekly travel, this role combines "white-glove" customer service with advanced troubleshooting across hardware, software, user identity, and network infrastructure.
Sr. Desktop Field Engineer Core Responsibilities Onsite Hardware & Infrastructure Support - Provide break-fix support for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices across client sites.
- Provision, image, and deploy new hardware using modern endpoint management tools.
- Perform routine data center and network tasks, including rack/stack, cable management, switch/router troubleshooting, and escorting third-party vendors.
- Conduct periodic physical hardware audits and maintain accurate local inventory records.
Cloud Identity & Device Management - Manage and administer user identities, access, and permissions in Active Directory and Azure Active Directory (Entra ID).
- Enroll, configure, and secure endpoints utilizing Microsoft Intune.
- Troubleshoot Exchange and Microsoft 365 application issues (e.g., Outlook connectivity, Teams, and OneDrive).
- Ensure device compliance, configure policies, and support OS troubleshooting for Windows environments.
Travel, Logistics & Service Management - Execute extensive weekly travel (driving or flying) to client sites and branch offices based on dispatch requirements.
- Track and manage all incidents, service requests, and hardware replacements using ITSM platforms like ServiceNow or Jira.
- Ensure all on-site work adheres to defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs), company security policies, and compliance standards.
- Create and update technical documentation, trip reports, and service logs.
Qualifications & Requirements - Certifications: CompTIA A+ and relevant Microsoft Certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, MCSA, or MCSE) are required.
- CCNA, Network+, and other network certifications are not required but are a major plus.
- Experience: 3-5 years of proven, hands-on experience in desktop field support or a related endpoint engineering role.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Windows OS troubleshooting (Windows 10/11).
- Deep working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Intune.
- Foundational knowledge of network infrastructure (DHCP, DNS, VPN, Wi-Fi).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently without direct supervision, and the stamina to manage a demanding weekly travel schedule.
- Physical/Logistical: Must have a valid driver's license, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a reliable, ready-to-travel status
