Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Architect to provide hands-on technical leadership and strategic architectural direction for current and future space and ground systems. This role is focused on transitioning a prototype space ground system into a fully operational, large-scale mission-critical environment. This position requires an architectural thinker and experienced leader who can redesign a reference program for operational rigor, supporting massive data throughput in a continuous 24/7 mission environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee software architecture, design, development, and analysis for complex systems.
- Lead end-to-end software lifecycle efforts including requirements, design, build, integration, and test.
- Translate customer, operational, and performance requirements into scalable software architectures.
- Perform and oversee system-level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities.
- Architect a real-time, mission-critical ground system capable of supporting petabyte-scale data over its lifespan.
- Lead code reviews to ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
- Evaluate and guide the adoption of emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across software engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required.
Experience:- Extensive experience in software architecture and system-level software design.
- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing software test environments.
- Experience supporting defense, space, or government programs.
- Proven technical leadership of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with hardware/software integration, emulation, or testing, preferably in a lab environment.
- Strong background in secure, mission-critical systems.
Security Clearance: An active Top Secret / SCI U.S. Security Clearance is required to start.
Work Environment: This position requires the ability to work 100% onsite in Albuquerque, NM.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ground-to-space or space-to-ground systems.
- Experience with Software Engineering principles such as Software Configuration Management and Software Life Cycle Management.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python, JS frameworks (e.g., REACT), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
- Experience with dependency management and automation services (e.g., Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins).
- Experience using cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $126,000.00 to $217,000.00 annually. The pay rate range is $85.00 to $105.00 per hour. Specific compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other factors.
