Senior Electrical Engineer (Lead-Level, Hands-On)
Location: Milpitas, CA
Work Model: 100% Onsite (5 days/week, required)
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (typical 8:00am-5:00pm)
About the Role
Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, and sustainment of complex electrical and electronic systems within a high-tech manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with deep expertise in PCB and Flex PCB design who enjoys working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable hardware solutions and resolve manufacturing and customer-driven technical challenges.
This position supports both new product development and sustaining engineering efforts. Candidates with experience supporting semiconductor equipment or advanced manufacturing systems are strongly preferred. This is a fully onsite role; remote or hybrid work is not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support electrical and electronic systems, including schematic capture and hardware architecture
- Perform hands-on PCB and Flex PCB design and layout ownership
- Support new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives
- Troubleshoot complex electrical issues and support customer escalations and manufacturing issues
- Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions for field and production problems
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, systems, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams
- Generate and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design records, analysis reports, and compliance documentation
- Support complaints engineering and ensure issues are documented, tracked, and resolved
- Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality guidelines
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred but not required)
- 6-10+ years of experience in electrical or electronics engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with PCB and Flex PCB design
- Experience with electrical and electronic system development
- Experience producing and maintaining engineering documentation and supporting compliance efforts
- Semiconductor industry experience is strongly preferred
- Candidates from robotics, medical devices, or other advanced hardware industries may be considered if they have relevant semiconductor exposure or domain knowledge
- Ability to balance design ownership with hands-on troubleshooting and support
Tools and Technical Skills
- PCB design and layout tools such as Allegro (preferred)
- PSpice or similar circuit simulation tools
- Strong understanding of electrical system design best practices
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Immediate ownership of PCB and Flex PCB design work
- Active contribution to development and sustaining engineering efforts
- Effective resolution of manufacturing issues and customer escalations
- Strong collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality hardware solutions
Team Environment
- Collaborative engineering team of approximately 10-14 engineers
- Highly technical, cross-functional environment
- Individual contributor role (not a purely managerial position)
