Hansen Talent Group is hiring a Senior Mainframe Application Engineer to support a large enterprise in Columbia, SC. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days a week onsite and as needed.
What You’ll Do
• Analyze, design, program, and implement complex application tasks and projects within core commercial claims systems.
• Devise logical, efficient solutions to complex business problems using enterprise application development practices.
• Formulate scope and objectives through research to develop or modify complex systems.
• Review detailed technical specifications and recommend improvements.
• Design, code, test, debug, and document complex application programs.
• Evaluate interrelationships between programs and assess impact of changes across systems.
• Apply conversions and system enhancements to improve business functionality.
• Work closely with customers, business analysts, and team members to ensure solutions align with business and IT strategies.
• Participate in full SDLC activities including analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and post-production support.
• Create and execute test plans, test files, and validation processes to ensure quality and performance.
• Provide guidance and technical leadership to lower-level programmers and analysts.
• Act as an internal consultant on complex technical initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotation (approximately one week every other month) and provide after-hours or weekend support as needed.
What You’ll Need
• Application development, systems testing, or related IT experience.
• Strong application development experience in a mainframe environment (not infrastructure/zOS systems programming).
• Required technical experience with:
– COBOL
– DB2
– JCL
– Mainframe application development
• Strong understanding of systems analysis, integration methodologies, and quality assurance practices.
• Ability to assess requirements, risks, and alternatives across low- to high-impact projects.
• Experience working in fast-paced, customer-focused, project-driven environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical thinking abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and collaborate effectively in a matrixed team structure.
