Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to support a critical mainframe modernization and conversion initiative. This role will focus on migrating legacy IBM mainframe applications to a modernized platform leveraging Rocket Software.

This is a high-priority role supporting government-related operations, requiring a candidate who can work in a secure, onsite environment and contribute across development, testing, and functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Support conversion of legacy COBOL applications from IBM mainframe environments to Rocket Software platform
Analyze existing application logic, workflows, and data structures
Perform COBOL development, enhancements, and code remediation as part of migration efforts
Execute unit testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution
Validate system outputs against business requirements and acceptance criteria
Assist with report updates, table processing, and printer configurations
Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and confirm expected results
Work across the full lifecycle including analysis, development, testing, and validation

Required Qualifications

Active security clearance
Ability to work onsite in Lynchburg, VA (flexibility for compressed schedules such as 4x10s or part-time 100% onsite)
5+ years of COBOL development experience (10+ preferred)
Strong experience with IBM Mainframe environments
Experience with application conversion or modernization projects
Hands-on experience with:
- COBOL
- Mainframe utilities and environments
Strong troubleshooting and testing skills
Ability to work independently and interact directly with business users
