About the Role

We're looking for experienced, self-directed Central Office Technicians to join a team supporting critical telecom infrastructure in the Knoxville, TN area. This is hands-on, high-stakes work in central office and MSC environments where your expertise matters from day one. You'll work alongside a tight-knit team of technicians under the direction of a Foreman, operating on demanding timelines with minimal supervision. What You'll Be Doing

  • Installing and removing fiber optic cables, including pre-termination and termination
  • Performing fiber raceway installation and cable management
  • Conducting lead verification and continuity testing
  • Analyzing job specifications, schematics, and drawings and executing accordingly
  • Preparing and executing Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Job Information Procedures (JIMs)
  • Resolving job specification and drawing discrepancies in the field
  • Marking and correcting office record drawings
  • Performing in-process and final quality inspections
  • Serving as the in-charge person on common system installation jobs
  • Providing direction and job assignments to Level 1 and Level 2 installers
  • Operating specialized cabling tools including hydraulic crimping tools, cable cutters, and heat guns
  • Operating battery test equipment including Alber and Midtronics testers
  • Supporting DC power plant operations including battery maintenance, rectifiers, PDUs, and fuse panels

What You Need to Bring

  • Proven Level 2 or higher competency across installation, wireline, wireless, Central Office, and MSC environments
  • Hands-on experience with DC power systems, telemetry, LTE, alarms, and DSO through OC-192 communication systems
  • Proficiency with balance of plant support systems including grounding, DC power, batteries, raceway, and superstructure systems
  • Working knowledge of Alarms, Float, Equalize, Internal Resistance, Connection Resistance, Microhms, MHOS, Rectifiers, and PDUs
  • Familiarity with Bellcore/Telcordia, NFPA, UBC, and NEC codes and standards
  • Understanding of EPA and HAZMAT regulations related to battery recycling and disposal
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (required)
  • Experience with 12V, 24V, and 48V DC systems is a strong plus
  • Reliable transportation, strong attention to detail, and a track record of punctuality

  • You can read and troubleshoot schematics cold - wiring diagrams, power drawings, fiber layouts
  • You've done load bank testing and battery impedance testing in a telecom environment
  • You know what 750 and 535 cable looks like and how to terminate it properly
  • You've worked with the NOC and understand what it means to coordinate on a live system
  • You've mentored or directed less experienced technicians on the job

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
