The Opportunity

StaffRight Associates is seeking a high-caliber technical expert to step into a pivotal contract role as a SQL Application & Systems Administration Support Engineer. In this position, you will serve as the backbone of critical database and server operations, ensuring peak performance, seamless software deployments, and rapid issue resolution.

This long-term, 12-month-plus hybrid engagement based in Buffalo, NY, offers a talented professional the chance to drive operational excellence, optimize data warehouse functionality, and elevate infrastructure reliability within a sophisticated corporate environment.


What You’ll Do

  • Champion real-time production support and user troubleshooting, leveraging live screen-sharing and technical diagnostics to resolve system incidents with urgency.

  • Architect complex SQL queries, advanced data extractions, and strategic database modifications to fuel data warehouse upgrades and business intelligence initiatives.

  • Maintain core applications across diverse Linux and Windows server environments, spearheading routine patching, version upgrades, and baseline configurations.

  • Orchestrate continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines utilizing automated tools to guarantee smooth monthly software releases.

  • Synthesize deployment strategies alongside engineering and business analysis teams to synchronize application modifications and release schedules.

  • Govern daily systems administration duties, including Active Directory user permissions, access provisioning, and framework version compliance.

  • Execute scheduled off-hours system implementations and participate in a shared on-call rotation to guarantee maximum environment availability.

  • Engineer robust automation scripts via PowerShell and Bash to eliminate repetitive operational tasks and optimize system efficiency.

  • Intersect with cross-functional technical groups to evaluate intricate system dependencies and deploy structurally sound infrastructure solutions.

  • Formulate comprehensive technical blueprints, verification plans, and change logs while coaching and upskilling junior technical team members.


What You Bring

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of deep systems analysis, application development, and advanced relational database engineering.

  • Scripting Mastery: Proven track record of building sophisticated automation scripts utilizing both Windows and Unix-based shell environments.

  • Infrastructure Acumen: Strong background administering dual-platform environments (Windows and Linux OS), alongside active directory governance.

  • Support Capabilities: Demonstrated success navigating high-stakes production support ecosystems with a history of accelerating time-to-resolution for complex incidents.

  • DevOps & Lifecycle Knowledge: Thorough understanding of the complete software development lifecycle, paired with practical deployment pipeline management tools.

  • Agile Competency: Familiarity working within Agile frameworks and utilizing modern project tracking and documentation repositories.

  • Adaptability: A high-energy, proactive work ethic capable of balancing multiple technical priorities simultaneously under tight timelines.

  • Industry Background: Previous exposure to the financial services or banking sector is highly advantageous.

  • Communication Skills: Articulate analytical and problem-solving talents, with the capacity to convey intricate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
