Role Overview
The Wintel, Hypervisor & Server Build Automation Migration Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, automating, and validating the migration of Windows-based infrastructure, virtualized workloads, and data center services.
This role combines expertise in Wintel administration, hypervisor technologies, automated server provisioning, infrastructure-as-code, and enterprise migration methodologies to deliver scalable and repeatable migration solutions.
The engineer will lead migration initiatives involving VMware, Hyper-V, and enterprise Windows environments, leveraging automation platforms to streamline server builds, configuration deployment, application installation, and post-migration validation.
The role partners closely with Infrastructure, Cloud, Network, Security, Application, and Project Management teams to ensure successful migrations with minimal downtime and operational risk.

Key Responsibilities
1.Migration Assessment & Planning
Conduct comprehensive assessments of Windows servers, virtualization platforms, and data center infrastructure.
Identify migration candidates for:
Hypervisor migration
Lift-and-shift migration
Rebuild and modernization
Application rehosting
Document:
Server inventories
Application dependencies
Storage mappings
Network connectivity
Security requirements
Performance baselines
Develop migration runbooks, cutover plans, rollback procedures, and validation criteria.
Define migration schedules, maintenance windows, and success metrics.
Assess infrastructure readiness across source and target environments.

2.Hypervisor & Virtual Machine Migration
Plan and execute migrations across:
VMware vSphere
VMware vCenter
Microsoft Hyper-V
Nutanix AHV (preferred)
Private and Hybrid Cloud environments
Configure and manage migration tools such as:
VMware HCX
VMware vMotion
VMware Storage vMotion
Zerto
Veeam Replication
SCVMM
Azure Migrate
Perform migration testing, failover validation, and production cutovers.
Validate VM functionality, performance, and resource allocation post-migration.
Troubleshoot migration-related infrastructure and virtualization issues.

3.Server Build Automation & Provisioning
Design, develop, and maintain automated server build processes.
Create Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for Windows server deployment.
Automate provisioning of:
Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
Active Directory-integrated servers
IIS Web Servers
Application Servers
Utility and Infrastructure Services
Build automated deployment workflows using:
PowerShell
PowerCLI
Ansible
Terraform
Azure DevOps
Jenkins
System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM)
Standardize golden images and templates.
Automate:
OS installation
Security hardening
Patch deployment
Application installation
Monitoring agent deployment
Backup agent installation
Server onboarding processes
Implement automated validation testing following server deployment.
 
4.Wintel Infrastructure Migration
Migrate and support core Windows infrastructure services including:
Active Directory
DNS
DHCP
Group Policy
Certificate Services
IIS
File & Print Services
Perform Windows Server upgrades and migrations.
Ensure authentication and directory services remain operational throughout migration activities.
Validate application and service availability following migration or rebuilds.
Implement enterprise security baselines and compliance standards.

5.Data Migration & Synchronization
Plan and execute data migrations using:
Robocopy
DFS Replication (DFSR)
Storage replication technologies
Third-party migration tools
Perform incremental synchronization activities prior to cutover.
Validate data integrity using:
Checksums
File comparison tools
Reconciliation reports
Coordinate migration activities with business and application teams.
Troubleshoot synchronization and data consistency issues.

Desired Qualifications
Bachelor''s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of Wintel Infrastructure Administration experience.
10+ years of enterprise virtualization and data center migration experience.
5+ years of infrastructure automation and server build automation experience.
Experience delivering large-scale data center migration programs.
