OverviewOur client is seeking a hands-on Team Lead who will transition into an
IT Manager upon full-time conversion. This role combines technical execution with leadership responsibilities, overseeing a team of seven individual contributors while remaining actively engaged in day-to-day operations.
The team supports a highly diverse environment including on-premises infrastructure, Azure and AWS cloud platforms, VMware/ESX, Linux systems, and enterprise disaster recovery and colocation operations. Core responsibilities include infrastructure support, patching, maintenance, and ensuring overall platform reliability and performance.
Position: IT Service Manager - Cloud & Infrastructure OperationsPosition SummaryThe IT Service Manager - Cloud & Infrastructure Operations is responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure and cloud services. This role oversees daily operations of shared technology platforms supporting enterprise applications and business services.
Acting as both a technical leader and people manager, this individual partners closely with architecture and engineering teams to shape strategy, influence design, and drive operational excellence across cloud, on-prem infrastructure, networking, and security domains.
Key focus areas include team leadership, service reliability, capacity planning, vendor management, and continuous service improvement to enhance performance, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy- Help develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards for Cloud & Infrastructure Operations
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating across IT teams
- Contribute to technical strategy, roadmap planning, and architecture-level decision-making
- Drive improvements in system resilience, monitoring, and control frameworks
- Serve as a senior technical mentor and thought leader across engineering and operations
Team Management- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 7 infrastructure professionals
- Manage daily operations including workload distribution, priorities, and performance
- Support hiring, training, employee development, and workforce planning
- Ensure effective resource allocation to meet business objectives
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment
Service Reliability & Operations- Ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure and cloud services
- Proactively monitor systems and resolve issues to minimize downtime
- Apply ITIL best practices and track KPIs for operational performance
- Lead incident response and drive root cause analysis and resolution
Process Improvement & Delivery- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service quality
- Standardize and document procedures for consistent execution
- Implement automation and modern tooling to optimize operations
- Support implementation of new technologies and infrastructure solutions
- Track and report on KPIs and SLAs
Vendor & Stakeholder Management- Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders
- Ensure third-party services meet performance and compliance standards
- Serve as escalation point for platform-related issues
- Participate in vendor negotiations, contract management, and cost control
- Partner cross-functionally to align IT services with business goals
QualificationsEducation & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- 5+ years of IT operations experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role
- Hands-on experience supporting both on-prem and cloud environments
- Familiarity with ITSM frameworks (ITIL preferred)
Technical & Professional Skills- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Experience with VMware, Azure, AWS, Linux, and enterprise infrastructure
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
