Overview
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 Architect with deep expertise in Office Web Add-ins and enterprise-scale governance. This role will be responsible for defining, standardizing, and operationalizing the full lifecycle of Microsoft 365 add-ins-particularly transitioning from legacy COM add-ins to modern Web Add-ins-across a large, complex organization. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with M365 admin consoles, Exchange/Outlook, third-party add-in management, and governance at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- M365 Add-in Architecture & Administration
- Architect, administer, and support Microsoft 365 Web Add-ins across Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and other Office apps.
- Manage a portfolio of 300-500 Office/Web add-ins, including third-party integrations (e.g., Teams, Webex, collaboration tools).
- Work with the Microsoft Admin Center and Office Add-ins (Integrated Apps) to control availability and deployment through the Microsoft Store.
- Define and maintain controls so only approved add-ins are available to end users.
- COM to Web Add-in Migration
- Lead and standardize the migration from COM add-ins to Web Add-ins.
- Define minimum technical requirements for migration (authentication, permissions, deployment models, manifest changes, etc.).
- Create reusable templates and patterns to accelerate migrations and reduce risk.
- Provide architectural guidance to application teams during modernization efforts.
- Governance, Risk, and Compliance
- Design and stand up an enterprise governance framework for third-party and internal add-ins.
- Establish a formal intake, review, testing, certification, and deployment process for all lines of business.
- Develop standardized methods, policies, and best practices for add-in lifecycle management.
- Participate as a core member of a governance board and help establish or mature a Center of Excellence (COE).
- Partner closely with third-party application owners and web administrators.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview for data protection and compliance is a plus.
- Enterprise Operations & Automation
- Operate at large enterprise scale (20,000+ users; experience supporting environments of 200,000+ users preferred).
- Set up monitoring, auditing, and ongoing controls for add-in usage and compliance.
- Build and maintain a lab environment for testing and validation.
- Use PowerShell scripting to automate administration, reporting, and policy enforcement.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an M365 Architect or Senior M365 Engineer in a large enterprise environment
- Strong expertise with Microsoft 365 Admin Centers, Exchange/Outlook, and Office Add-ins
- Hands-on experience with Office Store and integrated add-in deployment models
- Deep understanding of governance, security, and enterprise controls
- Working knowledge of web technologies and add-in development concepts
- Strong stakeholder engagement and documentation skills
