Functional Design Documentation

1. Deep Oracle Fusion Financials Functional Expertise (Most Important)

The consultant must have strong hands-on configuration and business process knowledge in:

General Ledger (GL)

Accounts Payable (AP)

Accounts Receivable (AR)

Fixed Assets (FA)

Projects Financial Management

Cash Management

Financial Reporting

This is not someone who knows one or two modules. They want an enterprise-wide Oracle Financials lead.

2. Design Phase Leadership Experience

This engagement is specifically for the design phase, not implementation.

The consultant must be able to:

Analyze the current state finance processes.

Conduct fit-gap analysis.

Determine where Oracle standard functionality satisfies requirements.

Identify required process changes.

Design future-state business processes using Oracle best practices.

A candidate who has only done configuration or support work will struggle here.

3. Workshop Leadership and Executive Presence

This may actually be the biggest differentiator.

They need someone who can:

Facilitate finance workshops.

Challenge legacy business processes.

Guide controllers and finance leaders toward Oracle standard processes.

Handle difficult stakeholder conversations.

Present recommendations confidently.

The phrase "client-facing role" usually means:

leading workshops,

driving decisions,

managing stakeholders,

documenting outcomes,

presenting recommendations.

4. Oracle Financials Data Conversion Expertise

Many Oracle consultants are weak here.

Client specifically wants someone who understands:

legacy ERP data extraction,

chart of accounts mapping,

supplier conversion,

customer conversion,

asset conversion,

open AP/AR balances,

project financial conversions,

reconciliation strategy.

The candidate should have authored:

Data Conversion Strategy documents

Conversion mapping documents

Conversion functional specifications

5. Documentation Ownership

The deliverables tell you exactly what success looks like.

The consultant will be expected to produce:

1. Future State Business Process Flows

2. Functional Design Documents

3. Data Conversion Strategy

4. Functional Specifications for Integrations and Conversions

5. Draft Configuration Workbooks
