Dreamscape Learn (DSL) is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry's best cinematic storytelling. Our mission is to deliver unique virtual reality and 2D labs and full course experiences which are provably efficacious, readily scalable, and emotionally engaging.
We're seeking a creative, self-motivated, and collaborative
UI/UX Designer for VR & Web to join our Realm 4 - Dreamscape Learn team. Every day you'll make a difference in the lives of others by taking on a variety of tasks, both independently and in collaboration with other artists, game developers, project leads, and other stakeholders. You will use emerging technology tools and artificial intelligence to create new story-driven experiences and improve the interactivity and user experience of assets.
Essential Duties:- Develop storyboards, mockups, prototypes, and detailed design specifications to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
- Apply user personas and scenarios to develop relevant process and user flow models.
- Collaborate with development to ensure implementation follows the design specifications.
- Improve the look and feel of interactivity and visual clarity of experiences.
- Suggest and create game assets and points of interaction that engage and captivate users.
- Execute all visual design stages from initial concept to final delivery to engineering.
- Prototype interactive experiences as needed.
- Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user-friendliness to complex design roadblocks.
- Create overall concepts for the user experience to ensure efficacy of user understanding and educational effectiveness, where relevant.
- Regularly communicate technical, intuitive, and interactive constraints to other departments.
- Create wireframes of user flows and other graphics to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
- Collaborate with other members of the team to ensure visual style, user interaction, and narrative flow fit well within the project.
- Help troubleshoot graphical issues related to UI/UX asset production.
- Assess the usability of new and existing products and make constructive and innovative suggestions for change.
- Participate in user research activities enabling the project team to build a deep and rich understanding of our users.
- Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and executives for review and feedback.
- Participate in iterative or Agile software development processes and brainstorming sessions to support software effectiveness, accessibility and ideal user experience.
- Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
NOTE: This is not a fully remote position. Must be able to reliably commute to Tempe, Arizona.
Desired Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science Education (CS), or a closely related field.
- Evidence of a strong portfolio demonstrating 1) responsive and scalable user-centered design solutions, 2) industry experience in design, 3) use of Google Analytics and other website and search analytics software, 4) relevant UI/UX skills with strong interaction design skills, 5) visual design skills, 6) sensitivity to user-system interaction for web development and VR/game development.
- Demonstrated ability to rapid prototype in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Experience with UI/UX design in game engines in a professional capacity required.
- Experience in video game content creation in a professional capacity with one or more shipped titles in your portfolio.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
- Demonstrated understanding of game UI development best practices, core principles and challenges of UI/UX from an artistic and technical perspective, and common UI/UX technical architecture and patterns.
- Experience crafting high quality assets for Web, iOS, Android, AAA games, and/or VR.
- Demonstrated comfort building both with 2D and 3D UI elements.
- Experience developing for Virtual Reality.
- Demonstrated expert understanding of adaptive, responsive, and fluid UI layout concepts.
- Experience with Dreamscape Learn's SDK platform.
