Job#: 3020966 Job Description: Apex Systems is currently hiring for a Field Engineer with a large Business Services client.
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 24+ Months
Pay Rate: $22-25/hr.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts (40 hours/week) potential overtime.
Travel Requirement: Up to 50-75% (Must have own vehicle; mileage reimbursement, .72 cent back per mile). Resource will cover up to a 300mi area around their home.
Position Summary:We are seeking a
Field Engineer to support the client customer data centers by resolving hardware and infrastructure issues. This role requires hands-on experience with enterprise-level systems and a strong understanding of data center operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across IT infrastructure including client and multi-vendor enterprise systems, servers, storage, and networking.
- Perform rack and stack, hardware installations, disk drive and memory replacements, and hot swaps.
- Utilize software tools for daily operations and troubleshooting in a data center environment.
- Provide client-facing support with professionalism and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with team members during a 45-90 day training period; you will not be expected to work solo during this time.
Training:
- This resource will be put through a 16-week training period. Following the 16 weeks, they will "graduate" and then be added to an "ON CALL" rotation. By this time the expectations is that this resource can be dispatched and service clients onsite alone vs. needing a team lead with them
8 weeks of training is virtual via instructions/online modules
8 weeks of training is OTJ (in field with team leads)
2 of the 8 weeks training will be conducted in person in Alpharetta, GA + Colorado Springs, CO. The resource will be flown out/can drive if local
ON CALL ROTATION
Once graduated and added to on call rotation, this resource will be "on call" for a full week. This will happen every 3-7 weeks/as needed
Qualifications:- Candidates must successfully pass both a criminal background check and a credit check.
- Requires 2-3 years of hands-on experience working with servers, cabling, workstations, routers/switches, and general network infrastructure.
- This is a break/fix role, so candidates should have direct experience performing hardware repairs and replacements.
- Must be proficient in replacing hardware components such as disk drives, memory DIMMs, and performing hotswaps and installations.
- Prior experience working in data center environments is strongly preferred, including rack-and-stack work.
- Must have strong communication skills and be comfortable interacting with clients.
- CompTIA A+ certification is preferred but not required.
