Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator with specialized expertise in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). This role serves as the sole VDI-focused engineer on-site, acting as the primary subject matter expert for all VDI-related issues and initiatives. The successful candidate will work within a larger systems team, providing critical support and strategic leadership in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level expertise for the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment.
- Lead as the Subject Matter Expert on all VDI-related issues and needs.
- Interact with Tier III support, evaluate vendor products, and manage ticket escalations for major outages.
- Lead the onboarding and stand-up of new enclaves and environments.
- Develop, monitor, and implement policies and standards for computing resource allocation.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Provide strategic input to development partners on emerging needs and technological advancements.
- Coach and review the work of lower-level technical staff.
Work Environment
The position requires working 100% on-site at Fort Meade, MD. The standard hours are Monday through Friday, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This role is the only VDI specialized engineer on site and collaborates with a larger team of systems administrators and engineers.
Required Qualifications
Clearance: An active Top Secret/SCI security clearance (or SCI eligibility) is required.
Education: A Bachelor's degree with 8 years of relevant experience is required. An additional 4 years of experience (totaling 12+ years) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Must have extensive experience with virtual environments using VMware and VDI practices. The candidate must be a Subject Matter Expert in Active Directory and proficient in both Windows and Linux environments, with a preference for stronger Linux skills.
Certifications: Must possess a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the integration of cybersecurity tools with network performance and security subsystems.
- A thorough knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP.
- Experience using a ticketing system such as ServiceNow.
- ITIL v3 Foundation certification.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 90 days, a VCP/VCAP certificate or equivalent.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary for this position is $135,000.00 per year upon conversion. A comprehensive benefits package is available to eligible employees.
