At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career and the future of investing. Here, innovative thinking meets purposeful work as we challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry-together.

We believe strong outcomes are built through collaboration. This role is expected to work on site four days per week in Austin or Southlake, TX, creating space for learning, connection, and shared problem-solving.

You'll join the Advisor Services Database Team, a collaborative group of engineers and technology leaders responsible for shaping database strategy that supports Schwab's growing advisor business. This is a hands-on role where curiosity, continuous learning, and shared ownership are valued. If you enjoy building reliable, scalable database solutions and want your work to directly support client-facing platforms, we'd love to connect.

As a Specialist, Database Engineer, you'll partner closely with application and infrastructure teams to design, build, and support enterprise database solutions. Your work will help modernize platforms, improve performance, and ensure the reliability of systems used by advisors every day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support end-to-end database delivery for multiple Agile development teams.
  • Design, develop, and support enterprise database solutions across Oracle and SQL Server environments.
  • Participate in database lifecycle activities, including provisioning, patching, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning.
  • Write and maintain database objects such as queries, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to improve stability and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues, including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation including weekends.
  • Contribute to automation efforts that reduce manual work and improve reliability using AI.
  • Support database migration and optimization initiatives as part of consolidation and technology modernization efforts.
  • Create and maintain clear, accurate documentation to support operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with teammates, train associates as needed, and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Skills You'll Use and Grow:

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, learning new technologies, and taking ownership of outcomes. You'll apply both technical expertise and strong collaboration skills to deliver high-quality solutions with minimal defects.
