This is not a policy-only or advisory role and not a Microsoft Purview compliance / M365 security position. The successful candidate will combine hands-on Purview execution with governance program design and stakeholder enablement in a regulated enterprise environment.

  • Implement metadata harvesting from diverse platforms including:
    • Azure SQL, Oracle, Data Lakes, Lakehouses
    • AWS S3 and cloud-native data platforms
    • BI tools and modern analytics pipelines (including Fabric where applicable)
  • Develop API-driven automation for metadata ingestion, lineage enrichment, and stewardship workflows
  • Manage Purview roles, permissions, governance rules, and platform standards

Enterprise Data Governance Program Implementation

  • Design and operationalize enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including:
    • Ownership and stewardship models
    • Metadata standards and certification workflows
    • RACI structures and governance operating models
  • Drive governance adoption across business and technology domains
  • Establish and track KPIs such as:
    • Catalog coverage
    • Lineage completeness
    • Classification accuracy
    • Data quality and transparency improvements
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory evidence using Purview metadata and lineage

Metadata, Lineage & Data Quality Integration

  • Build and maintain end-to-end lineage across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers
  • Integrate metadata and lineage with data quality and profiling tools to surface insights within governance workflows
  • Partner with data engineering teams to embed:
    • Metadata contracts
    • Lineage standards
    • Governance checkpoints into pipelines

Business & Technical Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with:
    • Business data owners and stewards
    • Analytics and AI teams
    • Data engineering and platform teams
  • Facilitate governance workshops, lineage walkthroughs, and metadata curation sessions
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly narratives
  • Act as a bridge between data governance, analytics, AI, and engineering

Required Qualifications

Technical & Functional Experience

  • Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview Data Governance, including:
    • Data Map, Catalog, Scans, Lineage, Classifications, Glossary
  • Experience working in Azure and AWS-based data ecosystems
  • Background in data engineering, data architecture, or modern analytics platforms with a strong understanding of data flow
  • Proven track record implementing enterprise data governance programs from planning through operational execution
  • Knowledge of metadata standards, lineage frameworks, and data quality concepts

Domain Experience

  • Experience in financial services or regulated enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with core data domains such as:
    • Trades and transactions
    • Security master and reference data
    • Portfolio, risk, or performance analytics
  • Ability to map governance requirements to regulatory and audit expectations
(Asset management experience is not required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 15 years of data governance or data management experience in large enterprises
  • Experience with complementary governance or lineage tools such as:
    • Solidatus
    • Collibra
    • Alation
    • Informatica
  • Relevant certifications (preferred, not required):
    • Microsoft Azure
    • DAMA
    • DCAM
    • Data Governance or related disciplines

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid work requirement: 3 days per week onsite in Newark, NJ
  • No visa sponsorship now or in the future

Why This Role

  • Senior, high-impact governance role with broader scope and higher compensation
  • Opportunity to shape enterprise governance across cloud platforms
  • Hands-on Purview work without being limited to a single platform
