ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Tableau Architect to lead a critical data migration and discovery engagement involving 600+ enterprise Tableau dashboards transitioning from on-premises SQL Server to Microsoft Fabric. This role combines deep Tableau platform architecture expertise with extensive Microsoft Fabric knowledge to architect the strategy, design Fabric Semantic Models, analyze existing dashboard infrastructure, and deliver comprehensive discovery documentation with optimization recommendations. You will work with Agentic AI systems leveraging Tableau MCP and SQL Server MCP to automate discovery workflows, generate migration scripts, and produce data lineage mappings. The ideal candidate brings extensive Tableau architecture experience, proven implementation expertise, strong data analysis capabilities, and a track record leading large-scale BI migration projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead discovery engagement to inventory and analyze 600+ Tableau dashboards, mapping all data source connections from SQL Server/excels/files to Tableau.
- Design Tableau-to-Fabric connection strategy including authentication methods, connector selection (SQL endpoint, XMLA, ODBC), and Live vs Extract architecture decisions
- Architect Fabric Semantic Models optimized for Tableau consumption, defining measures, relationships, row-level security, and aggregation strategies to maximize performance
- Perform comprehensive data lineage analysis to map Data Sources including Excels/Files/SQL Server databases, tables, and views to Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, or Semantic Model equivalents
- Develop optimization recommendations including query performance improvements, semantic model consolidation, extract refresh strategies, and dashboard redesign opportunities
- Leverage Agentic AI with Tableau MCP and SQL Server MCP to automate metadata extraction, inventory, and dashboard dependency analysis
- Analyze Direct SQL/custom SQL queries, calculated fields, LODs and business logic within dashboards to identify migration complexities and transformation requirements
- Create migration wave recommendations with priority-based phasing strategy, risk assessment, rollback plans, and detailed effort estimates for execution
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 14+ years of experience with Tableau administration, architecture, and performance tuning in enterprise environments
- Deep expertise with Tableau Server, Tableau Cloud, Tableau REST API, and Tableau Metadata API for programmatic dashboard analysis
- Proven experience leading Tableau migration projects including connection redirection, data source consolidation, or platform upgrades affecting 200+ dashboards
- Hands-on experience with Tableau MCP and SQL Server MCP integration for AI-driven automation and metadata extraction workflows
- Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Semantic Models, data pipelines, and Direct Lake mode configurations
- Proven experience designing and implementing Fabric Semantic Models with optimized measures, relationships, and security for enterprise analytics consumption
- Strong background in data analysis, SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and translating complex data models across platforms
- Experience with Agentic AI systems and designing workflows that leverage AI agents for discovery, analysis, and code generation tasks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Tableau Certified Architect certification
- Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate or Data Engineer Associate certification
- Experience with AI agent orchestration frameworks and prompt engineering for technical automation workflows
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, row-level security migration, and enterprise authentication strategies
- Familiarity with Fabric data pipelines, incremental refresh patterns, and hybrid cloud-to-on-premises connectivity
