Position Title: Senior Systems Engineer (Linux / Automation / Storage / Splunk / AWS)
Location Information
On-site / Per Customer Direction (within secured environment). U.S. Citizenship required. Duration: Through 12/31/2026 with the possibility of extension.
Position Responsibilities:
The Senior Systems Engineer plays a critical role in the design, implementation, and support of enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructures, automation, authentication systems, monitoring/logging (Splunk), and storage administration. This role will support a mission-essential environment, participating in a team that delivers secure and highly available operations. The engineer will be tasked with troubleshooting complex issues, performing system lifecycle management, and collaborating across multiple technical domains to ensure operational reliability and efficiency. Candidates must be ready to participate in an on-call rotation and adapt to evolving technical needs.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Linux Engineering & Operations:
- Design, build, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems in enterprise-scale environments.
- Perform system installation, patching, upgrades, hardening, and ongoing configuration management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, such as boot failures, performance bottlenecks, system outages, and storage/network integration challenges.
- Restore service availability and lead root cause analysis for critical issues.
- Implement server authentication and access controls using Centrify and Kerberos.
- Automation & Cloud Integration:
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks using Ansible and, ideally, Terraform.
- Administer and optimize Ansible Automation Platform for large enterprise deployments (highly desired).
- Support cloud-hosted enterprise infrastructure, including configuration and management of AWS services (particularly EC2 and S3).
- Monitoring & Logging (Splunk):
- Administer Splunk infrastructure, including indexers, search heads, and forwarders.
- Support log ingestion pipelines, troubleshoot log delivery issues, and identify opportunities for scaling and performance improvements.
- Enterprise Storage Administration (NetApp):
- Operate and maintain NetApp storage platforms (highly desired), including configuration and troubleshooting of CIFS and NFS shares.
- Configure and monitor SnapVault and SnapMirror replication, including reporting and health checks.
- Perform upgrades and maintenance on NetApp ONTAP environments.
- Support cloud storage integrations such as FSx for NetApp (desired).
- Operational Support & Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to achieve project and operational objectives.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate operational documentation and runbooks.
- Participate in a rotating on-call support schedule to maintain high system availability and timely incident response.
- Contribute to continuous process improvements and operational excellence initiatives.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document thoroughly and relay complex technical information to diverse audiences.

Qualifications:
- Senior-level experience designing, implementing, and administering RHEL infrastructure in complex, enterprise environments.
- Hands-on expertise in troubleshooting and restoring Linux systems in high-pressure situations.
- Technical proficiency with authentication tools such as Centrify and Kerberos within Linux ecosystems.
- Experience administering elements of Splunk infrastructure (indexers, search heads, forwarders).
- Solid foundation working within AWS services (including EC2 and S3 platform support).
- Preferred: Proficiency with Ansible and Terraform automation; experience scaling and supporting Ansible Automation Platform in large and complex deployments; NetApp storage (including CIFS/NFS, SnapVault, SnapMirror, ONTAP upgrades); familiarity with FSx for NetApp cloud storage.
