About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly skilled MariaDB Technical Architect / Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale, self-hosted enterprise service management platform. This role focuses on the design, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support of a highly available MariaDB environment supporting mission-critical business applications.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with MariaDB administration, multi-site replication, failover strategies, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in complex enterprise environments. Experience supporting ServiceNow on-premises deployments or similar large-scale service management platforms is highly desirable.
Position Overview
The MariaDB Technical Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a distributed, multi-site MariaDB architecture that delivers high availability, resiliency, and optimal performance. This individual will work closely with platform administrators, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure database services align with operational and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize MariaDB environments across multiple locations and environments.
- Configure and manage database replication, clustering, and failover solutions to support high availability and business continuity.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to maximize efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with application and platform administrators to ensure optimal database utilization and performance.
- Support architecture planning, installation, upgrades, migrations, and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Lead technical discussions and workshops related to database architecture, design, and operational best practices.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery, backup, and restoration procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide root cause analysis and resolution recommendations.
- Automate operational tasks through scripting and tooling.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to project teams and junior technical staff.
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with MariaDB administration, architecture, or consulting.
- Strong understanding of InnoDB architecture, transaction processing, and database internals.
- Demonstrated experience with MariaDB performance tuning and optimization in Linux-based environments.
- Expertise in replication technologies, high-availability architectures, clustering, and database scaling strategies.
- Experience developing and executing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans.
- Proficiency with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Experience implementing database security controls, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
