Salt Lake City, UT
6-12month Contract
Pay Range: $45.00 - $65.00per hr
Job Description:
The IT Asset Management Lead is accountable for the end-to-end execution of a multi-site IT Asset Management transformation initiative. This role serves as the operational and technical leader over the IT Asset Engineer and IT Asset Analyst(s), owning strategy, execution, and delivery of a trusted "single source of truth" for enterprise IT assets.
This individual combines hands-on technical depth with strong program leadership-directing discovery, automation, physical audits, and governance while ensuring disciplined execution, rigorous documentation, and consistent standards across all locations. The role requires extensive on-site engagement and travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, Mountain West, and Southwest to oversee 50+ locations, supporting week-long site stints over a six-month engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Program & Team Leadership
- Serve as the overall ITAM program owner, accountable for inventory accuracy, governance, and delivery milestones
- Lead, coordinate, and prioritize work across the IT Asset Engineer and IT Asset Analyst(s)
- Establish clear roles, workflows, and escalation paths between technical and operational functions
- Ensure consistent execution standards across all site audits and technical implementations
IT Asset Strategy & Architecture
- Define and own the IT Asset Management lifecycle strategy, from procurement through retirement
- Act as the technical authority for discovery, scanning, and asset data architecture
- Ensure the ITAM ecosystem supports a scalable, auditable single source of truth
Discovery, Scanning & Automation Oversight
- Oversee deployment and optimization of automated discovery tools and network scanning protocols
- Direct the design and use of physical scanning infrastructure (barcode, QR, RFID, mobile scanning apps)
- Ensure physical audit processes align with automated discovery outputs and reconciliation rules
Physical Inventory Execution
- Lead and oversee floor-to-floor physical inventory audits across multiple locations
- Validate tagging standards, chain-of-custody accuracy, and asset condition/status
- Act as point of accountability for on-site execution quality and data integrity
Data Integrity & Reconciliation
- Establish normalization rules and reconciliation processes between physical audits and system data
- Review discrepancies, approve remediation actions, and validate final inventory accuracy
- Ensure asset relationships correctly map to users, locations, systems, and business capabilities
Governance, Policy & Documentation
- Own creation and enforcement of ITAM policies, standards, and lifecycle procedures
- Maintain and approve the ITAM Operational Playbook, including audit routines and reporting cadences
- Ensure documentation is thorough, auditable, and sustainable beyond the project lifecycle
System Integration & Optimization
- Oversee integrations between discovery tools, scanning platforms, ITSM/CMDB systems
- Partner with ITSM, Security, and Infrastructure teams to align asset data with enterprise processes
- Drive automation to identify underutilized assets, reclaim licenses, and reduce spend
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, Systems Engineering, or IT Operations
- Proven experience leading enterprise or multi-site ITAM initiatives
- Hands-on experience with physical inventory audits, discovery tools, and CMDB alignment
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical and operational resources toward a common outcome
- Strong program management skills with the ability to manage timelines, dependencies, and risk
- Highly disciplined, self-motivated, and comfortable operating autonomously in the field
- Exceptional documentation skills with a strong governance mindset
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest, Mountain West, and Southwest for on-site leadership
- Ability to perform on-site physical tasks, including lifting equipment up to 50 lbs
Desired / Bonus Skills
- Experience with ServiceNow ITAM / CMDB
- Experience with Asset Panda
- Familiarity with SAP LeanIX or enterprise architecture tooling
- ITIL 4 certification or strong ITSM process knowledge
- Experience remediating legacy or highly fragmented asset environments
