Role Overview:
The MES to SAP Architect is a highly skilled IT professional responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the integration between Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. This role requires extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, MES technologies, SAP systems, and integration methodologies to create seamless connections between shop floor operations and enterprise-level business processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop robust integration solutions between MES platforms and SAP ERP systems.
2. Create and maintain technical documentation for MES-SAP integration architecture.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, IT, and business units, to gather requirements and ensure alignment between MES and SAP systems.
4. Develop and implement data synchronization strategies between MES and SAP systems.
5. Optimize existing integrations for improved performance, real-time data exchange, and efficiency.
6. Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues in the manufacturing IT landscape.
7. Ensure data consistency, integrity, and traceability across MES and SAP systems.
8. Stay current with the latest MES, SAP, and Industry 4.0 technologies and best practices.
9. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
10. Participate in project planning, estimation activities, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in MES and SAP integration projects.
3. Strong knowledge of MES platforms (e.g., Siemens SIMATIC IT, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Wonderware) and SAP modules (e.g., PP, MM, QM, PM).
4. Expertise in integration technologies and protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, web services).
5. Proficiency in programming languages relevant to MES and SAP integration (e.g., ABAP, Java, C#, Python).
6. Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, shop floor systems, and production data management.
7. Experience with SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP MII) or similar middleware solutions.
8. Knowledge of industrial automation protocols and standards (e.g., ISA-95, ISA-88).
9. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on manufacturing environments.
10. Strong communication skills and ability to bridge the gap between IT and OT (Operational Technology) teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in a relevant field.
2. SAP certification (e.g., SAP Certified Technology Associate - SAP MII).
3. MES certification or extensive experience with specific MES platforms.
4. Experience with IoT platforms and edge computing in manufacturing contexts.
5. Knowledge of industry-specific processes and regulations (e.g., pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage).
6. Familiarity with data analytics and machine learning applications in manufacturing.
