About the Role

We are seeking a Cyber Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, assessment, and validation of cybersecurity capabilities within complex defense and mission-critical systems. This role works closely with systems engineering teams to ensure cybersecurity requirements are integrated throughout the system development lifecycle and aligned with industry and government security frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and decompose cybersecurity requirements into system-level and subsystem-level requirements.
Support system architecture development and cybersecurity-focused design decisions.
Ensure cybersecurity controls are integrated throughout the system development lifecycle.
Develop and maintain risk management and security authorization documentation.
Conduct attack surface analysis and recommend mitigation strategies.
Support system integration, verification, validation, and cybersecurity testing activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to achieve mission and program objectives.
Participate in cybersecurity assessments, security reviews, and engineering review boards.
Propose cybersecurity architecture improvements with traceability to requirements.
Develop engineering processes, procedures, and technical documentation.
Support Agile and DevSecOps-based engineering efforts.
Research and resolve complex cybersecurity and systems engineering challenges.

Must-Have Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 5+ years, Master's degree with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ year of experience in:

Systems Engineering
Cybersecurity Engineering
Computer Engineering
Computer Science

Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, concepts, and methodologies.
Experience with NIST 800-160 System Security Engineering and/or System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
Experience in one or more of the following:

Requirements decomposition
Requirements derivation
Requirements traceability
Systems architecture
System design
Implementation
Integration & testing
Verification & validation

Experience supporting RMF authorization artifact development aligned with NIST SP 800-37.
Ability to work semi-independently with general guidance from leadership.
Ability to obtain IASAE Level II certification (CISSP preferred) within six months of hire.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

IASAE Level III certification (ISSEP or ISSAP).
Software Assurance experience.
Expertise with MBSE methodologies and tools such as Cameo.
Experience with IBM DOORS or other requirements management platforms.
Knowledge of cybersecurity systems engineering practices and network technologies.
Understanding of DoD development lifecycle methodologies and infrastructure management.
Experience with containerized platforms and DevSecOps environments.
Experience developing:

Cybersecurity Strategies
System Security Plans (SSP)
Continuous Monitoring Plans
Security Assessment Plans

Experience in Digital Engineering environments.
Experience supporting multi-domain certification or accreditation efforts.
Strong background delivering systems with cybersecurity and information assurance requirements.
