Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Operations Project Manager for a remote opportunity with one of our premier clients.

Position Overview
The Operations Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of a plant consolidation and relocation initiative, overseeing the transfer of manufacturing equipment, machinery, hardware, operational systems, and supporting infrastructure from one facility to another. This role will coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and plant leadership to ensure assets are safely relocated, installed, tested, and operational at the receiving facility while minimizing disruption to production, quality, and customer commitments.
The ideal candidate has experience managing complex manufacturing or industrial relocation projects, coordinating multiple workstreams, and driving projects from initial planning through operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
  • Develop and manage the overall project plan, timeline, milestones, dependencies, budget, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate all activities associated with plant consolidation, equipment relocation, and operational transitions.
  • Establish project governance, communication plans, status reporting, and escalation procedures.
  • Monitor progress against milestones and proactively address risks, delays, and resource constraints.
Equipment, Machinery & Asset Relocation
  • Oversee the inventory, documentation, preparation, disassembly, transportation, reinstallation, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Coordinate the relocation of production lines, tooling, fixtures, material-handling equipment, IT hardware, and other operational assets.
  • Partner with engineering, maintenance, facilities, and operations teams to validate equipment requirements and receiving-site readiness.
  • Ensure equipment is properly connected, calibrated, tested, and approved before returning to production.
Systems & Infrastructure Coordination
  • Coordinate the transition of plant systems, technology hardware, network connectivity, controls, and other operational infrastructure.
  • Partner with IT, OT, engineering, and system owners to manage system dependencies, installation requirements, testing, and cutover activities.
  • Ensure critical systems and equipment are available and functioning at the receiving facility before production launch.
  • Coordinate data, system access, documentation, and technology support requirements as needed.
Cross-Functional & Vendor Management
  • Serve as the central point of contact across plant operations, manufacturing engineering, maintenance, IT, supply chain, EHS, quality, facilities, and leadership.
  • Manage third-party moving companies, rigging contractors, equipment suppliers, installation teams, and other service providers.
  • Coordinate schedules, responsibilities, deliverables, and issue resolution across all participating teams.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure action items, decisions, and outstanding issues are tracked through resolution.
Operational Readiness & Production Continuity
  • Develop transition and cutover plans to minimize production downtime and business disruption.
  • Coordinate receiving-site preparation, including utilities, floor layouts, equipment placement, safety requirements, and infrastructure readiness.
  • Manage equipment startup, validation, production trials, and operational acceptance.
  • Track readiness criteria and ensure critical dependencies are resolved before production resumes.
  • Support contingency planning and recovery strategies to address delays or unexpected relocation issues.
Budget, Risk & Reporting
  • Track project costs, vendor expenses, purchase orders, resource allocations, and budget variances.
  • Maintain project schedules, risk and issue logs, action registers, and executive status reports.
  • Identify potential safety, operational, financial, and schedule risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Communicate project progress, decisions, and escalations to plant leadership and executive stakeholders.
Project Closeout
  • Confirm completion of relocation activities, equipment acceptance, system readiness, and operational handoff.
  • Ensure asset inventories, equipment documentation, maintenance records, and system documentation are updated.
  • Document lessons learned and complete final project reporting.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of project management experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, plant transitions, facilities, or equipment relocation.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects involving multiple teams, equipment, assets, and operational dependencies.
  • Experience managing project plans, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, and vendor deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing or plant operations and the requirements for relocating and restarting production equipment.
  • Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with plant leadership, technical teams, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, Smartsheet, or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with plant consolidation, facility relocation, manufacturing footprint optimization, or production line transfers.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment installation, rigging, utilities, commissioning, and production startup.
  • Experience coordinating IT/OT systems, plant networks, controls, and manufacturing technology.
  • Familiarity with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements in industrial environments.
  • Experience with capital equipment projects, vendor contracts, and relocation budgets.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
