We are looking for a Sr. Scrum Master with at least 7+ years of IT experience.
*Any Oil & Gas domain experience is highly preferred, but getting a really strong Scrum Mater is most important.
Job Summary:
The Scrum Master position within the Refining IT aligned Digital Product Delivery Services group is a critical delivery role focused on driving digital transformation across the refining organization. This role serves as a servant leader and coach for the Agile teams, facilitating team events and processes, coaching and supporting teams in delivering value. The Scrum Master in Refining Digital will have a persistent focus on relentless improvement in how MPC uses technology that enables our business. The SM will work closely with Product Owners and other product teams. The role will provide daily guidance to the team to ensure alignment of goals and objectives, remove impediments, and, most importantly, hold teams accountable for delivering commitments and value.
Essential Skills:
5+ years of experience applying Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) with multiple teams, including more complex or scaled environments.
Proven experience establishing and sustaining Agile practices to create optimal environments for development and collaboration.
Strong background in Agile methodology and Agile project management, including iterative delivery and incremental value realization.
Hands-on experience with Scrum methodology and Agile transformation initiatives.
Demonstrated ability in program delivery facilitation, including coordination across multiple Agile teams, Product Owners, delivery partners, and stakeholders.
Experience supporting Program Increment (PI) planning and working within scaled Agile or teams-of-teams environments.
Solid project management skills, including overseeing schedules, tasks, and resource requirements for multiple teams.
Proficiency with Jira for managing backlogs, tracking work, and providing transparency into team progress.
Authentic communication skills, with the ability to clearly and credibly express ideas and information verbally and in writing.
Strong listening skills and the ability to foster constructive dialogue across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and address sensitivities among people and situations.
Experience in change management, including planning and implementing initiatives that help individuals, teams, and organizations navigate change.
Demonstrated capability in continuous improvement, identifying and leading initiatives that enhance value delivery.
Data analysis skills, including measuring and managing organizational data and using insights to improve processes and outcomes.
Facilitation skills, with the ability to expedite meetings, workshops, and other processes efficiently and effectively.
Ability to work effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders across multiple locations.
Job Responsibilities:
Establish and mature Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) for multiple, potentially complex teams by creating an optimal environment for development, collaboration, and delivery.
Serve as a servant leader and coach for Agile teams, facilitating team events and processes while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and value delivery.
Oversee specific project or team schedules, tasks, and resource requirements, and facilitate decision-making related to resourcing for multiple teams or teams-of-teams.
Facilitate coordination across multiple Agile teams, Product Owners, delivery partners, and stakeholders to manage dependencies, support Program Increment (PI) planning, escalate delivery risks, and promote alignment toward shared business objectives.
Partner with Release Train Engineers, portfolio managers, and external vendor teams to synchronize interdependencies during PI planning and ensure alignment with broader refining and digital objectives.
Collaborate closely with Product Owners to strengthen backlog health, assist with story mapping, and streamline dependency management, without direct reporting ownership.
Organize, conduct, and promote communications on behalf of large groups and teams-of-teams to leadership and strategic partners, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Facilitate large teams-of-teams events and ceremonies, driving clarity of objectives, priorities, and outcomes.
Guide proactive planning routines and events for teams and teams-of-teams, ensuring adherence to large-scale planning and goal-setting methods.
Define roles, responsibilities, and detailed timelines for initiatives, ensuring that teams understand expectations and deliverables.
Identify, track, and remove impediments that block team progress, escalating issues when necessary to maintain delivery momentum.
Promote Agile values and principles across the organization, encouraging authentic communication, constructive dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving.
Support change management efforts by helping individuals and teams navigate process, technology, and organizational changes.
Encourage and lead opportunities for continuous improvement and value creation, both incremental and large-scale, across the teams.
Leverage data analysis to measure team performance, inform decision-making, and support ongoing improvements in delivery practices.
Use Jira and other Agile tools to manage backlogs, track work, and provide visibility into progress for stakeholders.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working in refining, energy, or other industrial operational environments is beneficial.
Background in large enterprise or complex technology organizations is an advantage.
Familiarity with cloud, data, cybersecurity, SAP, infrastructure, analytics, SCADA, or operational technologies is a plus.
Experience collaborating with external vendors and partners within a scaled Agile or program context is helpful.
Exposure to enterprise-wide modernization initiatives and large digital transformation programs is desirable.
Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment that spans refineries, corporate offices, and remote teams.
