Overview
The Business Project Manager (BPM) will lead the business delivery of a multi OpCo upgrade of the Meter Data Management (MDM) at Exelon, including integration alignment with CC&B and other edge systems.
This role requires an understanding of the technical architecture and data flows of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) ecosystems, combined with the ability to translate technical impacts into measurable business outcomes across customer operations, regulatory compliance, billing accuracy, and operational efficiency.
The BPM serves as the primary bridge between IT, vendor partner (currently Accenture and Oracle), and business stakeholders from BGE, ComEd, and PECO to ensure the project is delivered on time, within scope and budget, and aligned to enterprise and OpCo-specific business objectives.
Core Responsibilities
Business Ownership & Value Realization
• Define and document business objectives for the MDM upgrade (e.g., sustained billing accuracy and continued regulatory compliance).
• Translate upgrade impacts (schema changes, interface changes, performance upgrades, edge system action changes) into business outcomes and operational impacts.
• Partner with IT delivery leadership to translate technical implementation into coordinated business execution—owning business readiness, process alignment, stakeholder engagement, and operational adoption while ensuring business activities remain synchronized with the IT delivery plan
• Partner with Finance and Audit to validate business case assumptions and track realized benefits.
Technical-to-Business Translation
• Understand and interpret:
• MDM Architecture
• AMI head-end integrations
• Interval data processing
• Batch vs. real-time interfaces
• Data retention and archival strategies
• Translate technical changes into:
• Billing impacts
• Customer impacts
• Field operation impacts
• Reporting and analytics implications
• Validate executive-ready materials that articulate complex system impacts in business language.
Project Delivery & Execution
• Contribute to and manage comprehensive project plans including:
• Business requirements validation
• Data migration strategy (as needed)
• Edge system alignment
• Testing (SIT, UAT, regression, performance)
• Deployment planning
• Dress rehearsal execution (3 or 4)
• Planning and transition to hypercare support
• Partner with IT PM to ensure tight integration between technical and business workstreams.
• Oversee business readiness activities (as needed)
• Identify and mitigate risks related to:
• Data integrity
• Billing disruption
• Regulatory compliance
• Customer impact
Regulatory & Compliance Coordination& Data Governance
• Ensure continued alignment with enterprise data governance standards.
• Ensure alignment with state regulatory requirements across OpCos (ICC/PUC/PSC).
• Partner with Exelon Audit Services (EAS) toEnsure documentation supports audit and compliance standards.
Change Management & Stakeholder Engagement
• Support change management team in conducting stakeholder impact assessments.
• Validate targeted project communication strategies for:
• Customer Operations
• Billing
• Metering
• Finance
• Regulatory
• IT Support
• Engage and support business readiness reviews prior to go-live.
• Engage and support post-implementation adoption and stabilization.
Required Skills & Experience
• 6-8 Years of experience.
• Experience in CC&B and MDM/AMI.
• Senior Level experience or former Exelon FTE or Contractor experience is welcome for this role.
