Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Power BI Governance & Enablement Lead to establish, administer, and continuously improve the enterprise Power BI environment. This role will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert for Power BI, Microsoft Fabric integration, reporting governance, semantic modeling, security, best practices, and self-service analytics enablement.
Unlike a traditional Power BI Developer role, this position is focused on defining and enforcing standards, building governance processes, artifacts, and templates, enabling adoption, mentoring and training developers, and ensuring the organization delivers consistent, high-quality, scalable, and trusted analytics solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, data modeling, and analytics architecture with exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. This individual will act as the steward of the Power BI platform and help shape the future of analytics across the company.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience working with Power BI, data analytics, business intelligence, or enterprise reporting platforms.
- Deep expertise in Power BI administration, governance, architecture, and semantic model design.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Direct Lake, Data Factory, and Power BI integration.
- Extensive experience designing and managing enterprise semantic models, certified datasets, shared dimensions, and reusable reporting assets.
- Strong knowledge of Power BI security, including Row-Level Security (RLS), Object-Level Security (OLS), workspace governance, and data access management.
- Experience defining and implementing reporting standards, governance frameworks, development lifecycle processes, and best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query, and Power BI performance optimization techniques.
- Experience establishing KPI governance, data definitions, business metrics, and enterprise reporting standards.
- Strong understanding of dashboard design principles, user experience, and business-focused data visualization techniques.
- Experience developing training programs, documentation, templates, standards, and developer enablement materials.
- Familiarity with Power BI deployment pipelines, DevOps, source control, and CI/CD practices.
- Working knowledge of AI capabilities within Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Microsoft Copilot technologies.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and drive adoption across multiple business functions.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Celonis Process Mining and Process Intelligence.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview, metadata management, data lineage, and governance programs.
- Microsoft certifications such as PL-300, Fabric Analytics Engineer, or Fabric Administrator certifications.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environments.
How you’ll make the impact
Power BI Governance Leadership
- Define, implement, and continuously enhance the organization’s Power BI Governance Framework.
- Establish standards for report development, semantic models, workspace management, security, deployment, naming conventions, and lifecycle management.
- Create governance policies that promote scalability, consistency, maintainability, and trust in analytics solutions.
- Serve as the primary advisor on what should and should not be implemented within the Power BI ecosystem.
Power BI Platform Administration
- Act as the primary Power BI Administrator for the organization.
- Manage tenant settings, workspaces, capacities, security, user access, licensing, and governance controls.
- Monitor platform usage, performance, adoption, and compliance with established standards.
- Ensure a secure and scalable Power BI environment that meets business and IT requirements.
Semantic Model & KPI Governance
- Lead the design and governance of enterprise semantic models and certified datasets.
- Define standards for reusable dimensions, measures, hierarchies, and KPI calculations.
- Partner with business stakeholders to establish and maintain a common KPI dictionary and trusted reporting foundation.
- Promote a "single source of truth" approach across all reporting solutions.
Microsoft Fabric Integration
- Define best practices for integrating Power BI with Microsoft Fabric.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to establish effective consumption patterns from Fabric Warehouses, Lakehouses, and Direct Lake semantic models.
- Ensure Power BI solutions align with the organization''s modern data architecture strategy.
Analytics Standards & Best Practices
- Develop and maintain standards for report design, user experience, accessibility, performance optimization, and visualization best practices.
- Create reusable templates, frameworks, and reporting accelerators to improve consistency and reduce development effort.
- Review solutions to ensure adherence to enterprise standards and governance requirements.
Training & Enablement
- Act as the organization''s Power BI Center of Excellence lead and trusted advisor.
- Mentor, coach, and train developers, analysts, and business users on Power BI best practices.
- Create learning materials, governance documentation, standards guides, and enablement programs.
- Foster a self-service analytics culture while maintaining appropriate governance controls.
AI & Emerging Capabilities
- Evaluate and promote responsible adoption of Power BI and Microsoft Fabric AI capabilities.
- Educate teams on emerging features including Copilot, AI-assisted analytics, natural language capabilities, and advanced reporting features.
- Provide guidance on how AI capabilities can improve analytics productivity and business value.
Strategic Partnership
- Collaborate closely with IT, Data Engineering, Data Governance, Business Intelligence, and business stakeholders.
- Drive alignment between business reporting requirements and enterprise analytics standards.
- Advocate for scalable, governed, and sustainable analytics practices across the organization.
- Help shape the long-term analytics roadmap and reporting strategy.
