Role Overview
This position supports large-scale aircraft modification, modernization, and aging aircraft sustainment work at a dedicated facility in New York. The Aircraft Modification Mechanic performs mechanical, structural, and wiring modifications on in-service aircraft in accordance with engineering documentation, customer requirements, and approved procedures. The program is expected to ramp in phases and will include a workforce with a mix of experience levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform aircraft modifications, alterations, rework, and repairs across mechanical, structural, and wiring systems.
- Install, remove, and rework interior and exterior aircraft components per engineering specifications.
- Incorporate engineering changes supporting modernization, obsolescence mitigation, and aging aircraft sustainment.
- Support modification work on large airframe aircraft in hangar or field environments.
- Read, interpret, and execute work per engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, service bulletins, and technical manuals.
- Review work orders, installation plans, out-of-sequence work instructions, and bills of material.
- Verify correct parts, kits, and assemblies prior to installation.
- Perform self-inspection and support peer inspections prior to quality sign-off.
- Maintain clean, organized, and FOD-controlled work areas.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, planning, and program leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical or technical experience in aviation, aerospace manufacturing, military, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial environments.
- Ability to read technical drawings and work instructions, or willingness to be trained.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to pass background checks and program onboarding requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aircraft maintenance, aircraft modification, or aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Military aircraft maintenance experience.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.
- Experience with aircraft structures, systems, or wiring modifications.
- Experience working on large airframes or complex mechanical systems.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
Work Environment
- Work will be performed at a dedicated aircraft modification facility.
- This role operates in hangar and flight-line environments.
- The position requires the use of mechanical lifts, platforms, and aviation ground support equipment.
- This is a fully onsite role.
