The Opportunity
StaffRight Associates is seeking a visionary technical leader to step into a highly visible, critical role as a Plant Metallurgist within a premier manufacturing environment in the Greater Boston/New England region. This strategic position has opened due to an upcoming retirement, offering an unprecedented opportunity to inherit a robust operation and drive the long-term integrity, quality, and evolution of a comprehensive product line.
As the primary materials authority on-site, you will wield final decision-making power over product quality and shipments while spearheading advanced materials engineering initiatives. This role blends hands-on technical mastery with high-level corporate and customer visibility, positioning you as a key organizational leader and offering an accelerated path for professional advancement.
What You’ll Do
Champion Quality Governance: Direct all certification processes for steel sourcing, forging fabrication, and thermal processing; rapidly diagnose metallurgical anomalies and benchmark plant performance against international excellence frameworks.
Architect Laboratory Operations: Own full operational responsibility for the on-site metallurgical laboratory, ensuring precise execution of testing protocols and continuous calibration of advanced testing environments.
Command Data & Compliance Systems: Manage incoming material inspections, oversee the daily integration of the Material Certification Database, and author the plant''''s master Metallurgical Process Manual.
Drive Preventative Auditing: Subsidize proactive product integrity by submitting samples for thermal and cleanliness verification, identifying variance trends before they impact production, and leading corrective actions for internal or external quality benchmarks (including NADCAP standards).
Synthesize Technical Standards: Author, adapt, and interpret complex specifications for raw materials, heat treatments, and castings, seamlessly aligning internal teams, external vendors, and global clientele.
Resolve Complex Engineering Challenges: Serve as the chief technical consultant for intricate, multi-variable manufacturing and customer challenges, utilizing and advising on state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment (such as SEM, X-ray diffraction, ultrasonic testing, and mechanical stress analysis).
Lead Capital & Process Innovation: Project manage advanced metallurgical initiatives, evaluate emerging thermal processing technologies, and provide the technical roadmap for modernizing existing plant infrastructure.
Cultivate Engineering Talent: Mentor and lead laboratory personnel, design cross-functional materials science training programs for plant staff, and confidently lead high-level technical presentations with key customers.
What You Bring
Academic Foundation: Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely aligned engineering discipline (Master’s or PhD highly preferred).
Industry Tenure: 2 to 15 years of progressive experience within industrial manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or fabricated metal production environments.
Thermal Processing Expertise: Proven hands-on background in heat treatment methodologies, forging, and casting techniques (specialized experience in bearing heat treat applications is a distinct advantage).
Analytical Precision: Strong competency in component failure analysis, defect interpretation, and the operation of sophisticated laboratory evaluation machinery.
Project Mastery: Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams and navigate rigorous industry compliance audits.
Logistics & Citizenship: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; willingness to work full-time on-site in a dynamic manufacturing facility.
