About the RoleThis role sits within
Quality and Test Engineering (QTE), an enterprise product organization that builds and supports
self-service testing platforms, automation frameworks, and testing standards used by thousands of engineers across the enterprise.
This is
not a QA execution role and
not an embedded sprint position. Instead, the role operates as a
senior enterprise enablement and escalation function, focused on solving complex automation challenges, supporting non-standard use cases, and driving consistent adoption of enterprise test automation standards across multiple Lines of Business (LOBs).
You will act as a
senior-level test automation and quality engineering expert, helping teams unblock difficult automation scenarios, consulting on best practices, and creating standards, documentation, and reference implementations that scale.
Key Responsibilities Enterprise Test Automation Enablement
- Serve as a senior technical enablement resource for functional test automation across Lines of Business.
- Triage, analyze, and resolve complex automation issues, blockers, and systemic impediments.
- Partner with LOB Single Points of Contact (SPOCs) to:
- Diagnose advanced automation challenges
- Recommend compliant patterns and solutions aligned with enterprise standards
- Resolve issues across tooling, frameworks, pipelines, and execution models
- Identify recurring problems and translate them into improved standards, examples, and platform enhancements.
Level 3 / Level 4 Automation Support
- Provide L3/L4 enterprise support through office hours and escalation channels.
- Handle advanced issues such as:
- Framework behavior and configuration issues
- CI/CD integration challenges
- Non-obvious test execution failures
- Reduce downstream delivery risk by ensuring timely, high-quality resolution.
Support for Edge-Case and Non-Standard Applications
- Enable automation for use cases outside mainstream tool patterns, including:
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
- Batch processing workloads
- Data-centric systems
- Windows and desktop applications
- Legacy or constrained platforms
- Document supported patterns, identify gaps, and escalate required platform enhancements.
Standards, Documentation, and Enablement Assets
- Define, publish, and maintain enterprise test automation standards, including:
- Test repository and GitHub structure
- CI/CD pipeline patterns
- Test tagging, execution strategies, and results management
- Environment-aware configuration and data handling
- Develop enablement content such as:
- Reference implementations
- Advanced troubleshooting guides
- Decision frameworks for tooling and execution strategies
- Ensure standards are practical, scalable, accessible, and continuously improved.
What This Role Does Not Do- No direct application feature delivery
- No embedded sprint-team execution
- No ownership of day-to-day application test creation
- No production test writing as a primary responsibility
Success Measures- Reduced automation-related service desk tickets and escalations
- Faster cycle time for resolving automation issues
- Increased enterprise automation adoption and coverage
- Approval and adoption of enterprise test standards by LOB partners
- Improved supportability for non-standard and edge-case systems
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of hands-on software engineering or test automation experience (7-10 years preferred)
- Strong background in functional test automation
- Hands-on experience writing automated functional tests
- Generalist engineering mindset (not siloed QA)
- Experience supporting multiple teams or platforms, not just a single application
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages:
- Experience with modern test frameworks and tools such as:
- Playwright
- Karate
- Robot Framework
- Selenium or similar
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to consult, coach, and enable teams rather than embed and execute
- Comfort acting as an enterprise escalation point (L3/L4 support)
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in infrastructure or platform engineering
- Experience defining enterprise standards and best practices
- Exposure to AI-assisted development or testing tools (e.g., Copilot)
- Prior enterprise-scale enablement or tooling platform roles
- Experience in large financial or regulated environments
