The Miami-Dade County Communications, Information & Technology Department (CITD) is seeking a full-time IT Senior Telecommunications Technician to join the Client Services group within the Service Management Division.
This position involves advanced technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex, enterprise-wide telecommunications infrastructure. Employees in this role are responsible for supporting a wide range of communications systems, including but not limited to personal computers (PCs), VoIP systems, LAN/WAN networks, 802.11 Wi-Fi, cellular systems, CCTV, CATV, and related equipment.
Key responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, diagnosing faulty circuitry and transmission/distribution lines, and performing maintenance and repairs at the component level. This position will be applying both fundamental and advanced principles of electronic technology, as well as exercising independent judgment in implementing system modifications and responding to critical infrastructure needs.
Work is performed under the direction of a technical supervisor and is reviewed for adherence to established standards, specifications, and overall system functionality.
Key Responsibilities also include the following:
- Install, maintain, and repair complex communications equipment, including PCs, VoIP systems, LAN/WAN networks, Wi-Fi (802.11), cellular systems, CCTV, CATV, and related technologies.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues, faulty circuitry, and transmission/distribution lines; implement corrective actions.
- Perform equipment overhauls, including adjusting, repairing, replacing components, and upgrading obsolete systems to meet current telecommunications standards.
- Conduct pre-installation site visits to assess personnel and material requirements; install riser and lateral cabling; ensure proper bonding and grounding of cable infrastructure.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and electronic diagrams.
- Inspect contractor installations to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic and testing equipment to identify and resolve system issues.
- Collaborate with vendors on system installation, maintenance, repair, and testing.
- Provide customer support during routine and emergency service calls; assist with user training and maintain inventory of necessary supplies.
- Follow established safety procedures related to electrical and electronic work.
- Prepare and maintain documentation in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements; generate reports, cost estimates, and supply requisitions.
- Make recommendations for improvements to telecommunications infrastructure, hardware, and software.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
