Basic Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Azure Database Administrator / Data Engineer to manage and optimize our data infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. This role requires a hybrid skill set, encompassing robust Azure SQL Server database management, logical data modeling, large dataset organization, and a solid understanding of version control and project management tools. The ideal candidate will ensure data integrity, security, performance, and availability, while also collaborating closely with development and IT teams to support application needs and drive data initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Azure SQL Database Management: Administer, monitor, and maintain Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server on Azure VMs, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
- Database Design and Schema Management: Design and implement logical and physical database schemas, including tables, indexes, views, and relationships, to support application requirements and business needs.
- Data Organization and Management: Organize and manage large datasets, implementing data standards, procedures, and definitions for data elements to ensure data integrity and quality.
- Performance Tuning and Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations, including query tuning and indexing strategies.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Develop, manage, and test robust backup and recovery plans and disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity and minimize data loss.
- Security and Access Control: Implement and manage security measures, including user access controls, permissions, and data encryption, to safeguard sensitive information and ensure compliance.
- Version Control and Project Management: Utilize Git for source code/version control of database scripts and schema changes, and manage tasks, issues, and project workflows within Jira.
- File Server Knowledge: Understand and manage data storage across traditional file servers and integrate storage solutions with cloud platforms like Azure Storage Accounts (BLOB, File Share).
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with software engineers, data analysts, and IT staff to ensure seamless integration of database systems with applications and provide technical support.
- Automation and Scripting: Design and develop scripts (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL) to automate routine database management tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server technologies and the Azure platform.
- Expertise in SQL and T-SQL, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and performing query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with database design, data modeling, and schema management best practices.
- Familiarity with file server management and cloud storage solutions.
- Proficiency with version control systems, specifically Git.
- Experience using project and issue tracking software, such as Jira.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with impeccable attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
