Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Governance & Data Quality Specialist with handson expertise in Microsoft Purview to help design, implement, and operationalize enterprisescale data governance capabilities. This role requires a strong blend of technical platform ownership, data lineage and metadata management, and governance operating model execution in a regulated environment.
The ideal candidate has deep experience working across modern data platforms, understands how data flows through analytics and AI pipelines, and can partner effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft Purview Platform Ownership
Lead the configuration, administration, and ongoing operation of Microsoft Purview, including:
Data Map, Catalog, Scanning, Lineage, Classification, and Glossary
Implement and manage metadata scanning across diverse data sources such as:
SQL and relational databases
Data lakes and lakehouses
Cloud analytics platforms and BI tools
Develop APIbased automation and scripts to enhance metadata ingestion, lineage enrichment, and stewardship workflows
Manage Purview policies, sensitivity labels, access controls, roles, and governance rules
Data Governance Program Execution
Design and operationalize enterprise data governance frameworks, including:
Data ownership and stewardship models
Metadata and glossary standards
Certification and curation workflows
RACI structures and governance forums
Drive adoption of governance practices across business and technology teams
Define and track governance KPIs such as catalog coverage, lineage completeness, classification accuracy, and data quality improvement
Lineage, Metadata & Data Quality Integration
Build and maintain endtoend data lineage across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers
Integrate metadata with data quality tools to surface profiling results, quality rules, and issue insights within governance views
Partner with data engineering teams to embed metadata standards and lineage into pipelines and platforms
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with business data owners, data stewards, analytics teams, AI/ML teams, and platform engineering
Facilitate governance workshops, lineage walkthroughs, and metadata curation sessions
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, businessfriendly language to support decisionmaking
Required Qualifications
Technical & Functional Skills
Strong, handson experience with Microsoft Purview in a production environment
Background in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics platforms
Experience implementing enterprise data governance programs from planning through operational execution
Familiarity with modern cloud data ecosystems, including:
Data lakes and lakehouses
SQL platforms
BI and analytics tools
Solid understanding of data modeling, metadata standards, lineage frameworks, and data quality concepts
Domain Experience
Experience working in financial services or other regulated industries
Exposure to complex data domains such as transactions, reference data, master data, risk, or analytics is strongly preferred
Soft Skills
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical audiences
Comfortable operating in a matrixed, enterprise environment
Preferred Qualifications
8 15+ years of experience in data governance, data engineering, or related disciplines
Experience with complementary governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Solidatus, or similar platforms
Relevant certifications (Azure, DAMA, DCAM, Data Governance, or related)
