Position Description

The Electrical Engineer II will play a key role in the manufacturing operation of Modine's data center cooling (chiller) product at our new Grand Prairie, TX facility during starting up, ramping, and scaling. This role owns portions of the electrical system design for complex, high-power thermal equipment and bridges the gap between engineering design, prototyping, and production execution.

You will lead electrical subsystems projects from concept through production, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and ensure designs are manufacturable, configurable, safe, and scalable for data center environments where uptime and quality are critical.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical System & Subsystem Design
  • Develop, and maintain electrical systems and subsystems design for large-scale data center cooling equipment.
  • Apply working knowledge of power distribution, switchgear, AC drives (VFDs), sensors, and transducers in system designs.
  • Support the selection of components and definition of electrical architectures that meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.

Design for Manufacturability & Scale
  • Support panel layouts, wiring designs, and documentation with a strong focus on design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
  • Support the transition from prototype builds to repeatable production, minimizing rework and improving build efficiency.
  • Coordinate closely with panel shops, wiring teams, operations, and design engineering during build and ramp-up phases.

BOM & Configuration Management
  • Create as needed, maintain, and improve structured configurable (Super) BOMs to support product variants, regional requirements, and scalable production.
  • Ensure alignment between electrical schematics, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.

Prototype Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide hands-on electrical support during prototype builds, testing, and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls integration issues in collaboration with controls, test, and operations teams.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve design robustness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Interface effectively with mechanical engineering, controls, operation, quality, sourcing, and program teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of electrical design standards and best practices.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design for industrial, mechanical, or thermal systems.
  • 3+ years hands on experience with panel builds, wiring and factory commissioning.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar).
  • Experience working in cross-functional product development environments.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution and control components.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting manufacturing start-ups, new product introductions, or production scale-up.
  • Familiarity with configurable product architectures and complex BOM structures.
  • Exposure to data center, HVAC, chiller, or mission-critical cooling systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing simulation or digital factory tools.

What Success Looks Like in This Role
  • Electrical designs that move smoothly from prototype to production
  • Clean, scalable BOMs that support product configuration and growth
  • Faster ramp-up to meet production plan with fewer build issues and rework
  • Strong collaboration across design engineering and operation teams
  • Reliable, high-quality electrical systems ready for data center deployment
