Genesis10 is currently seeking a Lead Kafka Developer for a hybrid position (3 days in office) with a Major Financial Institution located in Pittsburgh, PA; Strongsville, OH; Birmingham, AL; Farmers Branch, TX; or Phoenix, AZ. This is a contract to hire opportunity. We are seeking a hands-on Kafka Developer with strong Java engineering skills to design, develop, and support event-driven applications and data streaming solutions. This is a software engineering role, not a Kafka administration or platform support position. The ideal candidate will have deep experience building Kafka producers, consumers, stream-processing applications, APIs, and microservices using Java.
Responsibilities: - Design and develop scalable Kafka-based event streaming applications using Java
- Build Kafka producers, consumers, Kafka Streams, and real-time data processing solutions
- Develop Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs that integrate with Kafka
- Design topic structures, event schemas, partitioning strategies, and message contracts
- Implement error handling, retry mechanisms, DLQs, and observability patterns
- Collaborate with architecture, product, and engineering teams to deliver event-driven solutions
- Optimize application performance, throughput, and resiliency
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical leadership activities
Requirements: - 5+ years of Java development experience
- 3+ years of hands-on Kafka development experience
- Strong experience with Java 11/17, Spring Boot, Kafka Producers and Consumers, and Kafka Streams
- Proficiency with REST APIs / Microservices
- Experience with JSON, Avro, and Schema Registry
- Knowledge of Git, CI/CD, and Jenkins
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience designing event-driven architectures
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
Desired skills: - Confluent Platform
- Kafka Connect and custom connectors
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- Kubernetes/OpenShift
- Stream processing and real-time analytics
Pay range: $63.75 - $71.75 per hour
