Summary

Our direct client is looking for SharePoint Business Analyst / Content Strategist. Please send me resume, rate and contact details.

Engagement: Contract, 6 months, primarily remote (Minnesota-based preferred; occasional on-site in Twin Cities metro possible) Client: State of Minnesota agency Start: Immediate

Role

B2B Technology is seeking a Business Analyst / Content Strategist to lead the discovery and information design work for a SharePoint Online intranet build for a State of Minnesota client. This role is the bridge between end users and the technical build. You will spend the early phase of the project understanding how staff actually search for and use operational information, then translate that into a metadata schema, taxonomy, and content type design that the SharePoint architect will configure.

We need someone who can run user research, design information architecture, and write for clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, observation sessions, and card-sorting exercises with client staff to understand how they search for and use operational content
  • Inventory existing content across legacy sites and shared drives; identify duplicates, gaps, and ownership
  • Design a controlled taxonomy and metadata schema that reflects how staff actually work, not just how content is stored
  • Define content types, lifecycle rules (review, archive, retention), and ownership conventions
  • Draft governance documentation, including content standards, naming conventions, and review cadences
  • Support migration by applying metadata, validating accuracy, and coordinating with content owners
  • Write or edit content in plain language consistent with State accessibility and plain-language guidance
  • Partner daily with the SharePoint architect to ensure the technical build reflects the IA design
  • Help train client staff to maintain the taxonomy and content model after handoff

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years business analysis, content strategy, or information architecture experience, preferably on intranet, knowledge management, or document management projects
  • Demonstrated experience designing taxonomies and metadata schemas for SharePoint or comparable content platforms
  • Strong user research skills: interviews, observation, card sorting, affinity mapping
  • Experience writing governance documentation and content standards
  • Plain-language writing skills; able to translate operational jargon into clear, findable content
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management; comfortable working directly with non-technical staff at all levels
  • Self-directed; able to drive discovery work without daily supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior State of Minnesota, MNIT, or other public sector experience
  • Familiarity with SharePoint Online content types, managed metadata, and term store
  • Experience with WCAG accessibility standards and the State of Minnesota Accessibility Standard
  • Records retention and records management experience
  • Background in technical writing, library science, UX research, or knowledge management

Logistics

  • Remote with occasional Twin Cities metro meetings
  • Must be able to pass the State of Minnesota background and vendor onboarding requirements
  • Must work in U.S. time zones, Central preferred
