Senior Test Analyst (2 Openings)

Client:

California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS)

Location:

West Sacramento, CA (Hybrid - onsite 2-3 days/week)

Duration:

24 months + possible 12-month extension

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Review business and system requirements to define testing scope
  • Develop and execute:
    • Test plans and strategies
    • Test cases, scripts, and scenarios
  • Perform testing across:
    • System, integration, regression, performance, and UAT
  • Analyze test results, identify defects, and support resolution
  • Maintain all testing artifacts including documentation and reports

Test Data & Environment Management
  • Prepare, manipulate, and validate test data sets
  • Support test environment setup and maintenance
  • Develop scripts to modify and validate data
  • Assist business users with testing data and reporting needs

Enterprise QA & Framework Support
  • Contribute to development of enterprise testing strategies and standards
  • Align QA practices to SDLC and enterprise architecture
  • Recommend tools, methodologies, and process improvements

Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting
  • Partner with business SMEs and IT teams
  • Provide:
    • Weekly status reports
    • Monthly engagement updates
  • Communicate risks, issues, and progress to leadership

Knowledge Transfer
  • Provide training, documentation, and knowledge transfer to CalSTRS staff
  • Support long-term sustainability of QA practices


Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in IT with a strong focus on software testing and QA
  • 5+ years developing test plans, strategies, and technical documentation
  • 5+ years preparing test data, environments, and test cases
  • 5+ years using defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, HP ALM, Bugzilla, JAMA)
  • 5+ years analyzing test results and managing defect resolution
  • 3+ years performing data quality activities
  • 3+ years validating data conversion from legacy systems
  • Strong SQL experience including:
    • T-SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, views


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting business-led testing activities and reporting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, analysis)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience supporting large-scale government or pension systems


Work Environment & Logistics
  • Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite in West Sacramento required
  • Work performed during standard business hours
  • Schedules require prior client approval
  • Contractor responsible for travel costs
