Role Overview
An opportunity is available for a hands-on Technical Support Associate to support an Operations Repair and Maintenance Team within an Optics Manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring production readiness and uptime across multiple factories. This role involves close collaboration with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations to address factory equipment needs, implement preventive maintenance, and support equipment upgrades and installations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electronic, mechanical, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Lead or support the installation and upgrade of new or existing production equipment.
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance procedures, including Lockout/Tagout.
- Use multimeters, current probes, schematics, and technical manuals to diagnose complex issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure factory equipment is safe, reliable, and efficient.
- Support layout planning, capital equipment procurement, and documentation updates.
- Participate in call-in and weekend work as required to support critical operations.
- Follow all required safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
Education: Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field.
Experience: A minimum of 5-8 years of hands-on experience in equipment maintenance within a manufacturing or production setting. This is not a desk or technician helper role.
Technical Skills:- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with automated equipment and control systems.
- Experience working with high voltage systems (480V, 208V, 110V, and DC voltages).
- Proficiency with multimeters, current probes, and other diagnostic instruments.
- Ability to work from schematics, technical drawings, manuals, and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to work the 2nd shift after an initial training period on the 1st shift, with flexibility for weekends and call-ins.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Optical Coating (vacuum deposition), Diamond Point Turning, or RF Power Systems.
- Experience with PLC Systems and Ladder Logic.
- Prior work experience in the optics, aerospace, or defense industries.
- Strong initiative and the ability to independently solve complex technical issues.
Work Schedule
The standard schedule is 9/80, which includes every other Friday off. The initial training period of 6-8 weeks will be on the 1st shift. The primary assignment will be on the 2nd shift (approximately 2:30 PM to Midnight). Occasional Friday, weekend, and call-in work is required.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling tools and equipment.
- Occasional lifting or moving of parts and equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to navigate a production floor with tools, wiring, and machinery.
