Description:
FinOps Engineer
About the Role

We are building a new FinOps function and are looking for a senior FinOps Engineer to help drive financial accountability, optimize infrastructure spend, and improve cost predictability across our technology organization. In this role, you will embed cost awareness into engineering and operational workflows while delivering measurable efficiency gains across cloud and on-prem infrastructure.

You will work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Finance, and senior leadership to ensure cost is treated as a first-class consideration in design, delivery, and operations. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on infrastructure strategy, usage patterns, and long-term capacity planning.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and scale FinOps practices across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Enable application-level cost visibility, allocation, and chargeback/showback models.
  • Identify and deliver cost optimization opportunities, including rightsizing, savings plans, storage lifecycle management, and architectural improvements.
  • Build and automate cost guardrails, alerts, anomaly detection, and remediation workflows.
  • Develop budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to improve financial predictability.
  • Embed cost controls and accountability into engineering pipelines, operating models, and service design.
  • Define and enforce tagging, allocation, and governance standards at scale.
  • Leverage AI-assisted insights to surface inefficiencies, spend risks, and optimization opportunities.
  • Create dashboards and reports, translating technical cost drivers into clear business impact for technical and executive audiences.
  • Partner with Finance on cost reporting, demand trends, and capacity planning.
  • Advise on complex, large-scale infrastructure initiatives with broad organizational impact.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in cloud, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Proven, hands-on FinOps experience with measurable cost-reduction outcomes.
  • Experience with Azure and Google Cloud Platform cost management, billing, and optimization.
  • Experience optimizing costs in on-prem or hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience delivering:
    • Application-level cost visibility and chargeback/showback
    • Budgeting, forecasting, anomaly detection, and variance analysis
    • Quantifiable efficiency and cost savings
  • Strong automation and engineering skills, including Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience building automated cost controls, alerts, and remediation workflows.
  • Experience implementing tagging, governance, and allocation standards at scale.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical cost drivers and business impact to diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating FinOps in large-scale or multi-cloud environments.
  • Kubernetes or container cost optimization experience.
  • Experience embedding cost as a non-functional requirement in architecture and design reviews.
  • Familiarity with third-party FinOps or cloud cost management platforms.
  • FinOps Foundation certification or demonstrated applied FinOps maturity.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership on infrastructure and cost strategy.
Location
  • Chandler, AZ (hybrid; 3 days per week in office)
  • Irving, TX may be considered for exceptional candidates
