Summary

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager MEP

Location: Houston, Texas
Position Type: Full-time, Direct Hire

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join an established MEP engineering consulting firm. This individual will help lead multidisciplinary projects from initial design through construction administration while supporting project schedules, budgets, technical quality, client communication, and team development.

The ideal candidate will hold an active Texas Professional Engineer license in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and have a strong background in MEP consulting. Experience with educational facilities, including K 12 schools, colleges, or universities, is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in leading MEP projects from kickoff through construction completion.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to ensure complete and properly integrated project documents.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, staffing needs, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to EITs, designers, and interns.
  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Coordinate with architects, clients, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in and lead client, design coordination, and project progress meetings.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, addenda, and other construction administration documents.
  • Conduct site visits, field observations, and existing-condition assessments.
  • Identify project risks, scope changes, and schedule concerns before they affect delivery.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Assist with project proposals, scopes of work, fee development, and additional-service requests.
  • Help maintain strong client relationships and identify future project opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Strong experience working within an MEP consulting environment.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary MEP projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, deadlines, deliverables, and internal resources.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing technical direction to engineering and design staff.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, energy codes, engineering standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience with construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field reports.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong client-facing, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or managing MEP systems for K 12 schools, colleges, universities, or similar facilities.
  • Experience serving as a primary client contact.
  • Experience developing project scopes, fees, staffing plans, or proposals.
  • Experience managing projects through both design and construction.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit-based project delivery.
