Role Overview
This role is responsible for creating test methods, work instructions, and training technicians involved in the investigation of returned products. The Quality Engineer will review investigation results for accuracy and compliance, escalate product issues, and assess product performance. This position requires an electrical engineering background and experience with evaluating electro-mechanical failures in device components, ideally within the medical device sector. The role is lab-based and involves travel to San Diego for a few months.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership on departmental or cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- Understand failure modes and approve product analysis for complaints related to electro-mechanical devices.
- Coordinate, train, and supervise failure investigation activities for lab technicians.
- Support the integration of new products by creating and validating test methods and work instructions.
- Create and present analysis for internal review boards.
- Collaborate with R&D, Design Assurance, and other teams to determine the root cause of complaints.
- Monitor product performance and escalate non-conformance issues.
- Create and maintain product performance trends.
- Investigate trend excursions by performing data analysis to find cause.
- Create and release new work instructions and SOPs in the document control system.
- Initiate and own non-conformance investigations.
- Train technicians in root cause analysis through sound failure analysis techniques.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience: 4+ years of relevant experience, including hardware failure analysis (electronics/RF).
Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Demonstrated problem-solving and failure analysis capabilities of electronics systems/components, including those with RF communication. Understanding of RF communication schemes and concepts. Ability to create work instructions for device testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2-3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience in the Medical Device industry.
- Ability to understand system-level functionalities to devise and validate test methods.
- Familiarity with Post Market requirements and systems.
