Embedded Systems Engineer | St. Johns, MI

Salary Range: $86,000 - $131,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Designs and implements firmware for manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoots and debugs embedded systems on the production line.
• Collaborates with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate hardware and software.
• Develops and maintains documentation for embedded systems and processes.
• Optimizes code for performance, reliability, and resource utilization in a manufacturing environment.
• Participates in the testing and validation of new products and features.
• Provides technical support for existing embedded systems in manufacturing operations.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded software development for manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET).
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers/microprocessors (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R/A, PIC, AVR).

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) beyond basic microcontroller environments.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET).
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for test automation or data analysis.
• Demonstrated experience with version control systems beyond Git (e.g., SVN, Perforce).
• Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing or simulation environments.
