StaffRight Associates is sourcing for a premier U.S. defense technology innovator to identify a dynamic Software Engineering Manager for an onsite engagement in Binghamton, New York. This unique position bridges high-level technical execution with team development, dedicating approximately 80% of its focus to hands-on engineering architecture and 20% to personal mentorship.

In this role, you will steer the creation of advanced, real-time software solutions that reinforce critical national defense initiatives, ensuring deep technical involvement while cultivating a high-performing engineering unit.

What You’ll Do

Technical Direction (80%)

  • Architect and engineer high-performance software utilizing core programmatic languages to support complex aerospace and defense platforms.

  • Champion modernization initiatives for heritage software infrastructure to elevate system efficiency, sustainability, and operational resilience.

  • Synthesize engineering blueprints across multi-disciplinary teams, aligning software systems with hardware configurations and overall program milestones.

  • Drive deep-dive technical reviews, framework conceptualization, and strategic engineering choices for real-time mission-critical platforms.

  • Isolate and rectify system-level vulnerabilities within embedded frameworks and intricate code structures.

  • Formulate comprehensive lifecycle plans, generating detailed Basis Of Estimates, Integrated Master Plans, and Integrated Master Schedules.

  • Maximize code quality and engineering rigor through systematic peer reviews and the promotion of modern development practices.

Team Development & Administration (20%)

  • Cultivate the professional trajectories of technical staff, delivering tailored coaching, objective evaluation, and targeted career advancement paths.

  • Manage talent allocation, staffing forecasting, resource mapping, and internal recruitment processes to sustain peak team productivity.

  • Foster an environment rooted in accountability, operational excellence, and technical innovation.

  • Support strategic capture operations, bidding documentation, and foundational software engineering process enhancements.

What You Bring

  • Active U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance (or higher, with background check completed within the preceding five years), with the capacity to secure Special Access Authorizations.

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory to satisfy federal contractual regulations.

  • University degree (Bachelors Degree or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a directly related technical field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional software creation expertise, paired with at least 2 years of proven Technical Leadership, Team Leadership, or Engineering Supervision.

  • Extensive hands-on background developing code within environments utilizing C, C++, Python, or C#.

  • Demonstrated history working within Aerospace / Defense, Embedded Systems, Simulation, or Real-Time Applications.

  • Solid proficiency executing within Agile Methodologies, Scrum, or Waterfall Methodologies.

  • Capability to execute strategic programmatic mapping, including Basis Of Estimates, Integrated Master Plans, and Integrated Master Schedules.

  • Flexibility to accommodate periodic domestic travel and extended operational schedules to meet critical project deliverables.

Desirable Background Exposure

  • Real-Time Software Development and Embedded Systems engineering.

  • Legacy Software Modernization and Software Architecture implementation.

  • Multi-Threaded Applications construction.

  • System Integration Testing, verification protocols, and Proposal Management.

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Annual Base Salary: $140,000 - $180,000

  • Employment Type: Full Time / Direct Hire
