Location: Lake Mary, Florida or Pittsburgh, PA
Remote flexibility for duration of the contract- Candidates will be required to sit onsite 4x per week in either Lake Mary, FL or Pittsburgh, PA upon conversion.
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Range: $85-90/hr.
Role Overview
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Application Developer who brings a software engineering approach to reliability and production operations. The role focuses on applying strong software engineering principles to solve operational problems, with an emphasis on building automation to reduce manual work, ensuring faster recovery from incidents, and implementing permanent fixes. The ideal candidate will help improve system resilience and enable systems to run themselves across a complex application environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain automation to improve system reliability, reduce manual operational work, and standardize support processes.
- Develop backend services, tooling, and reliability solutions primarily using Python and Go.
- Partner with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to identify reliability gaps and translate operational pain points into scalable engineering solutions.
- Enhance observability by improving monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational readiness practices.
- Create self-healing and automated remediation capabilities that reduce repeat incidents and accelerate recovery.
- Support and evolve SRE practices, including the implementation of service level objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and performance metrics.
- Operate effectively within a large enterprise environment with established governance, change management, and release processes.
Required Qualifications
- A developer-first SRE mindset, with the ability to design and build durable software solutions for operational problems.
- Strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, debugging, code quality, testing, and system design.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go for backend development, tooling, or platform engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in automation and reliability engineering, focused on eliminating toil, building self-healing solutions, and preventing incident recurrence.
- Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration concepts (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with using monitoring, logging, and alerting tools to identify issues, prioritize improvements, and validate results.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills suitable for a senior individual contributor role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java development in large application ecosystems.
- Knowledge of SRE practices such as service level objectives (SLOs) and error budgets.
- Familiarity with enterprise delivery and operational tools such as GitLab, Jira, and ServiceNow.
- Experience supporting CI/CD, deployment automation, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Comfort operating within the compliance and governance processes of a large enterprise.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and the ability to validate outputs in engineering workflows.
Compensation
Pay Rate: $85.00/hr - $90.00/hr
