Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP HR / Payroll Consultant to support payroll, tax, and benefits operations for a large North American organization. This is a hands-on, technical SAP role combining system configuration with functional business support. The consultant will work closely with HR and business stakeholders to gather requirements, support live payroll operations, and ensure compliance with U.S. payroll and tax regulations.

The environment includes SAP Payroll running on a private cloud (ECC or HANA-based), with integrations to third-party vendors. Strong documentation and communication skills are essential, as the role is business-facing and audit-sensitive.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Payroll & Tax (Primary Focus)

• Configure, maintain, and support SAP Payroll (PY) for U.S. and Canada

• Own end-to-end payroll processing including:

  • Pre- and post-payroll activities

  • Payroll runs and off-cycle payrolls

  • Garnishments, third-party remittances, and payroll posting

• Configure and maintain:

  • Wage types, schemas, PCRs, tax models, and payroll rules

• Support year-end activities including W-2, W-2c, T-4, and tax reconciliation

• Integrate and support third-party tax vendors (e.g., ADP, BSI)

• Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, tax errors, retro calculations, and posting issues

Benefits & Integrations

• Configure and support SAP Benefits (BN), including plans, eligibility, enrollment, deductions, and retroactivity

• Manage benefit-related payroll deductions and employer contributions

• Support and troubleshoot benefits vendor integrations (files, IDocs, APIs)

• Ensure accurate mapping of benefits to payroll wage types

Technical Configuration & Support

• Configure and debug schemas, PCRs, wage types, infotypes, and posting rules

• Perform root-cause analysis and deliver permanent fixes for payroll and benefits defects

• Support payroll posting to Finance (FI) and reconciliation activities

• Participate in system upgrades, enhancements, and support pack implementations

• Execute unit testing, integration testing, UAT support, and parallel payroll runs

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations

• Support audits and compliance documentation

• Implement payroll changes driven by legislative or regulatory updates

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on SAP Payroll, Tax, and Benefits experience

• Strong experience with:

  • SAP Payroll schemas & PCRs

  • Wage type configuration

  • Tax models and tax reporting

  • Benefits configuration and payroll integration

• Proven experience supporting live payroll operations

• Strong U.S. payroll and taxation expertise (international experience is a plus)

Tools & Technologies

• SAP HCM / SAP Payroll (PY)

• SAP Benefits (BN)

• Payroll posting to FI

• Third-party tax and benefits vendors

• SAP debugging tools and payroll logs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAP Payroll on HANA or S/4HANA

• Familiarity with SuccessFactors and EC Payroll concepts

• Understanding of SAP CPI and SuccessFactors integrations

• Exposure to time management systems and payroll impacts

• Experience in large, complex, or unionized payroll environments

• Payroll, tax, or SAP certifications
